This campground is located about 10 miles from the South entrance to Lassen National Park and is closer to many of the park's features and trailheads than the main park campground at Manzanita Lake. This is a typical NFS campground with no hookups, but many of the sites are quite large and the roads are easy to maneuver. There is lots of room between sites and when we were there the week after Labor Day, it was maybe 10% full. This is a forest campground with no view to speak of, no creek or lake, and the nearest decent-sized town is 30 miles away. But it is quiet and peaceful, spacious, and convenient to Lassen Park. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
Not a good place. The hookups worked fine, but the staff was very unfriendly. The bathroom (note the singular) was consistently stocked with toilet paper and paper towels, but no cleaning ever took place. The floors and walls in the bath and shower were extremely dirty and the shower (note singular) dripped a steady stream of water day and night. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
A classic example of what was once probably a very nice campground, now in a state of decay due to neglect. The BBQ stands had not been cleaned and wasps/yellowjackets abound. Website says "gravel or pine needle sites". Not! Some gravel left over from a long time ago and mostly fine powdery dirt dust. The one bldg with 1 bathroom and 1 shower per gender: were filthy with holes punched in the walls, litter and water on the floor. We were there 3 days and the garbage cans and bathroom were never cleaned. No staff on site or ever seen. Although there were only 6 sites occupied, the manager would not give us even a partial refund because we left one day earlier than our reservation had been made for. Only positive is the proximity to the South entrance to Lassen Park. Also, the gas station across the road is closed. Closest gas station is about 25 miles away in Chester. IF you absolutely must stay here: pay only one night at a time or they'll rip you off for the whole reserved time. Next time we visit Lassen Park we'll drive the extra miles and stay elsewhere. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.
This is a nice and quite park. Our site had all of the hook-ups and it was roomy. Still had many sites available and it was the middle of summer. It is located away from the noisy road, but you check in at the store on the main drag. You might miss this place but it is in a nice forested setting away from it all, and close to the NP. Restaurant and store within walking distance. No internet. We camped here in a Motorhome.
