Stayed here twice for a week each time this summer while doing business in Vail. Price is with Access Pass; otherwise, $20 a night+ reservation fee. The only show in town for camping. It is about a 10-12 minute drive to the Vail center village. We have a 32 ft RV, and this campground will only accommodate a few rigs that size. Make reservations. It is often full in the summer. At the mouth of a beautiful canyon in the forest, with rushing Gore creek drowning out a lot of the hwy noise from I-70 1/2 mile away. Sites are generally not level, but what else is new. Somehow I was able to get satellite for TV both times I was there, even though there are a lot of trees. Verizon 4G 2-3 bars, data and voice worked fine. USFS restrooms very clean. Nice host, most sites have decent privacy. Pretty A very nice USFS campground. We camped here in a Motorhome.
There are not many campgrounds near Vail but we had read about a first come, first served National Forest Campground just east of town called Gore Creek. As we had our choice of sites when we arrived and settled in easily. The sites are large and private. There are no services other than pit toilets. We arrived under fire restrictions so no camp fires here (although usually, that is not a problem). You can hear the road noise from I-70 faintly but it’s quiet enough that the wind in the aspen trees drowns it out. It was a great spot to stay near Vail and we would definitely stop here again. There is no Wi-Fi but the 3G signal was strong. We camped here in a Motorhome.
