This is a great, small, unimproved campground. I am rating it an "8" because it was clean, quiet, and a great location. This is a Rustic campground. No electric hookups, no sewer, no water spigots for filling camper tanks, and No dump station. There are a couple water "pumps" available. You really do have to crank the hand pump up and down to get water. The pit toilets, otherwise known as outhouses, are surprisingly clean. But they are still outhouses. Probably most of the campsites are tent only. I checked "not big rig friendly" because the entrance road is tight in spots, and some of the campsites are difficult to get into and are not really level. Okay, after all that, this is a beautiful, heavily wooded state park in a beautiful area of Connecticut (Litchfield County). The campsites are large and well spaced in small loops along the Macedonia brook. Our campsite (site 47) was clean, with a large fire ring that had been cleaned out. Our site was not level and when we backed in our trailer it was facing the wrong way, but that did not detract at all from our experience. It was not crowded at all when we were here, and very quiet. The hiking trails are not very long, but a few of them are surprisingly challenging. If you are not in good shape for climbing you may want to check with the Rangers about which trails to hike. The views at the top of the Macedonia trail are great, and worth the hike. There is a lot to see in the surrounding area, including a covered bridge, Kent Falls State Park, museums, and much more within an easy drive. As long as you understand the rustic type of campground this is, it is a great place for a quiet camping trip in the woods. We camped here in a Tent Trailer.
