May Creek Campground (Beaverhead National Forest) is located just off of Highway 43, between Highway 93, Lost Trail Pass and the town of Wisdom, MT. Beautiful campground with lots of Lodgepole Pine. The interior road is dirt and gravel and the aprons are the same. There were a few pot holes in the road but, all and all it wasn’t too bad. Didn’t have any problems driving through the campground nor did we have a problem finding a campsite to fit in. Some sites are big rig friendly. Not very many people there over the weekend so it was very peaceful. Some of the sites are closer together than others and some sites aren’t level. We stayed in site #13 and had enough room (we’re 38’ class A) to get both bedroom slides out, living room slide and awning. The water faucet was just across the road from our site. There are only two non threaded pressurized faucets in the campground. A Water Thief makes filling the tank easier and you can find them at a Camping World. We were able to get our dome satellite in from our site. Long site and almost level. Vault toilets that were very clean but not lit up at night. We didn’t see a camp host in the four days we were there. This is a pack it in pack it out campground, NO garbage service. No cell or Aircard signal (Verizon) there. Closest town that we could get a cell signal was in Sula at the Bitterroot Ranger Station on Highway 93. There is a market in Sula and further to the north in Darby. Closest dump station going east is in Wisdom, Mt. at the Sinclair Gas Station. The other closest dump is in Sula going north on the 93 at the Sula Store & Campground. Big Hole National Battlefield is about 7 miles (from the campground) to the east off of Highway 43. The visit gives you a better understanding of what our government did to not only the Nez Perce Indians but other tribes as well. Very well done movie (25 min.) on the history of the Nez Perce flight and encounters with the 7th Calvary. Campground rates are $10.00 or $5.00 with a Golden Age Pass. We really enjoyed our stay at May Creek and would love to stay there again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
