The road from Mora has been updated and is much improved. If you are reserving one of the electric sites, select either end site for the greatest space. The park is in need of funding and attention. Water is not working at the group area or the south campgrounds which is where the dump station is. Impossible to clean your tanks correctly without water when dumping. The long term project plan for the park lists relocation of the dump station 3 years ago but that hasn’t happened yet. The rest rooms were mostly clean but the shower head provided a trickle at best. There is no cell phone service here and the pay phone was not working. We got Verizon service by driving about 5 miles back toward Mora or driving into Angel Fire. The woman at the camp host site was very friendly and regularly walked the park seeing how everyone was doing. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This park has seen better days. In past years the camp host’s were on top of goings on at the park. This year there was a new camp host who rarely ventured out of his 5th wheel. The rules were not enforced – a campsite next to the playground which had 3 RVs in it, had loud music playing all day and into the night (~ midnight it finally stopped). Same site had generator running most of the time, day/night. Many locals using the park for picnic/fishing but are not required to pay the day use fee’s nor are they prevented from occupying the camp sites during the day. This makes it appear that many of the sites are full but then in the evening, they are empty. The Dump station has not had water for rinsing in at least 2 years which makes it useless if you want an adequate dump. We did not see the ranger in 3 days? The lack of presence by both the ranger and camp host will quickly allow this beautiful, once quiet park turn into a place to avoid. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This was a nice state park but the electric hookup sites were on top of each other. There was enough room to put our slides out, one on each side and our awning. That’s it!! We found ourselves staring at our neighbors rig when we sat outside. There were about 10 sites lined up side by side. Across the creek were more elec./water (it’s in the group area) sites but you had to ford the stream and we’re too big. The water pressure was just OK and we found no problems with the electric hookups (20/30 amp) You will need a two way hose adapter for the water faucet since you share it with your neighbor. We had reserved a water/electric site for 7 days and left after 2. There are water spigots throughout the park. There was a picnic table below your space with a fire ring. There ‘s absolutely no privacy and everyone had a BIG barking pooping dog and the flies were out in force. One site that was really secluded ( non- electric) was when coming into the park, look to your right and you’l see a dirt road that has a sign that says NO TRAILERS OVER 16 FEET. We drove up the very short road to a great site with water close by. We would have taken our motor home up it if it wasn’t for the low branches and trees that needed to be trimmed close to the side of the road. It had a great shelter there, big space with a fire ring and picnic table. The regular sites are definitely nicer, further apart and lots of space. The restrooms were clean and modern with showers and there was a visitor’s center but there was never anyone there. A pay phone was located outside. There is no cell phone service here. They also have a campground host on site. There are no first come first serve electric sites at this park. If no one has a reservation they will sell the site to you for one night only and then you’l have to go to another site that is vacant. Their reservation system needs work. None of the reservation fees ($9.95) goes to the State Parks. Hwy. 434 that the park is off of leads up to Angel Fire and Eagles Nest and on to Red River. It’s a good road and made for a nice drive, we didn’t encounter any problems along the way. We camped here in a Motorhome.
