This campground is perfectly adequate and easily accessible if you're having work done at Tom Johnson, but I found the owner rude. When he found out we'd stayed at a competitor's campground nearby, he started bad-mouthing them terribly. The restrooms were OK, but not great. There was poison oak all around our campsite. We spent one night and won't be back; we'll drive a few extra miles up the mountain. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Bathrooms were unclean. No paper towels. Bathrooms were dirty and like something out of the old west. No locks on toilet doors and very old toilets. Daughter refused to go back to bathrooms. The sites were crammed in together, right on top of each other. The stream was nice and the fire pits (rocks in a circle) were nice. We wished we had gone back to Mama Gerties up the road. The wireless internet kept dropping out and we were only 1/2 way up the line of campers. They shouldn't even advertise that they have wireless. No cable. I would not recommend it to anyone. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

What a great find. The sites are along Buck Creek and nicely shaded. There is no swimming pool, but there are two swimming holes in the river and frequently used. The sites are fairly level and about half of them are occupied with permanent weekenders. The grounds are well kept and the permanent sites have their own gardens. The bath houses are outdated but fairly clean. There is new tile in the two shower areas. There is little privacy in the bathrooms though - open access to showers with only plastic shower curtain - but most people relied on their bathrooms in rigs. A very quiet location - except for Buck Creek - yet convenient for travel to nearby areas - Asheville, Cherokee, Smoky Mtn NP about 2 hours south and Boone, Grandfather Mtn, Blowing Rock about 2 hours north. Great park to escape to. We camped here in a Motorhome.

Our family stayed here for a week in early May. We were looking for a place to relax and fish, and Mountain Stream was the perfect place for that. Our site had a deck over the stream, but any of the stream-side sites are just as nice. The campground is well kept and attractive. Azaleas were blooming during our visit. The only negative was the lack of trout. The stream was not yet stocked, so there were only a few very small fish. Our family found nearby places to fish, but it would have been nice to be able to stay and fish. The Wi-Fi was extremely slow, but we were just grateful to have it at all, especially since there is no cell phone reception there. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

WOW! is the best way to describe this campground for me. I have never given a campground a 10 but this place deserves it. We had reservations and when we arrived they had all of the paperwork ready and check in was a breeze. They explained everything very well and before parking you knew what was and what to expect. We did not see a bad site in the campground; some are just longer than others. The owners have worked hard to make this a nice campground and it shows. They live there full time in their motorhome, yes motorhome. I do not think I have ever seen a campground or bathhouses and clean as this place. It is located on Buck Creek and over half the sites are creekside, which makes sleeping very easy. No noise to speak of at night except the creek and it just soothes you away. Now if you are the part of society today that is looking for lots of amenities, you may not be happy here. You can fish in the creek,or explore it, you can walk around the campground or ride a bike,(it is nice and level) play horseshoes, or basketball. Our favorite activity that they offer is just sitting by the creek and watching it go by. They do not have a playground, game room, or mini golf which was fine. We also liked the fact that you had no cell phone service at all,and no television that you could see very well unless you have satellite. The last thing I will add is that the road getting to Mountain Stream is a little tight and has some curves but nothing bad so do not let that deter you from staying there. We will definitely make Mountain Stream a regular spot for us. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here for Thanksgiving and really enjoyed the campground and the socializing with others guests. This place was so incredibly clean it was amazing! The bathroom and showers are cleaned a couple of times a day and they are heated. They had a potluck Thanksgiving dinner where the owners supplied the turkey and the guests brought all of the side dishes. It was a wonderful time of fellowship, food and fun. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 was because there were some seedy looking campgrounds leading up to their entrance with lots of permanent (dumpy looking) residents. I wish those people would take care of their grounds like these people do! We camped here in a Tent Trailer.

The intersection off the expressway to get to this campground is a nightmare for big rigs. The 2 lane roads intersect at an angle, so the turn we had to make was basically a 45 degree turn which isn't an easy feat in a 40' dp with tow. Thankfully there was no oncoming traffic from the road we were turning onto. The roads to get to the campground were all narrow two laners, but clearly marked with signs leading to the campground entrance. The entry road is very steep and twists a bit. We had a reservation to stay at this campground for a week, but we left early. We were on the premium site, which was nice - right on the pond complete with a nice covered patio. The pond was a little nasty, as well as the area surrounding it - fishing line and hooks and garbage. The campground dog was very nice, but a bit of pain for our own dogs. He kept trying to mate with them. We found it quite weird that the owners would keep an unleashed dog within the campground, especially when the rules say to keep your dogs on a leash at all times. The pool was nice, not very clean and obviously in need of work. There were a lot of soft spots on the pool floor, which worried me a bit. This campground also allows the public to access their amenities for a fee, so the pool and slide can be very busy at times. The campsite itself was actually not that bad (not too level, but you're in the mountains), and the owners and staff were excellent. Overall this campground just seemed run down. We will more than likely not return. We camped here in a Motorhome.

First let me say this park has one major plus..the attitude of the front desk manager - Alex. What an awesome kid. Extremely nice and friendly. For people coming here with motorhomes over 36 ft. it probably is going to be a very tight fit for you. ( Hint, for MH owners disconnect your toad before leaving and hook it up at Love's truck stop at I 40 ). The driveway coming in and out is one of the steepest grades I have ever seen in such a short distance. Also be careful of the back roads coming here, they are not very wide and mail boxes are right next to the roads. The CG itself has a lot of trash around on the sites. The fire pits are not cleaned out and peoples trash is typically left behind for you to deal with. They have no site prep program here at all and, after paying $ 50 I had to clean my own site once we hooked up. If you plan on swimming in the lake / pond, think again. It is a muddy algae mess littered with fish lures, fish hooks, trash, etc. The bath house trash can was running over onto the ground for two days. The sites are unlevel but the utilities placement is very well thought out. With the gas costs soaring and average Americans suffering, it would help if CG owners would help out their customers. Instead, this CG increased their mini golf prices from $ 3 to 5 this season. Their water slide costs are also high as are other incidental costs. It's a shame as this is a nice family who owns this CG and it has a gorgeous setting. But there seems to be a lack of dedication to the camp sites. Full fire pits, trash laying around each site, old fishing hooks and lures in the grass, etc. is not my idea of $ 50 dollars worth of camping facility. I am hoping that they focus more attention on keeping the campground and camp site clean. As for ourselves, we wont be back at these rates. It is way over priced. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is an impossible park to get to. The road in is small and poorly marked. The road down into the park is approximately 50%. Once you get here you had better be a billy goat. Our site was somewhat flat but don't know how we can get out of it tomorrow. All the attractions were closed. For the price it is not worth the hassel. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
