We stayed on Oak Island in a rented house in May 2006, and the campground was closed. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

The park is weedy and full of permanent RVs that look like they are about to fall apart. The bath house is closed. You are situated across from a Putt-Putt that plays music from Morning until about 11:00 PM. We camped here in a camper.

We have stayed at Long Beach Campground since 1995. There are no recreational activities at the campground, but since there are a couple of nice city parks nearby this doesn't matter. There are plenty of areas for bicycling on the island. We would either be cycling, on the beach or at the playground or shopping. This is a family campground. We have never seen public drunkeness nor rude campers. The sites are fairly close together. However, we come to enjoy the beach and not hang around the campsite. The beach here is about the best you'll find in the Carolinas, renourished in 2002. The campground is just across the street from the beach. There are very few condos on Oak Island. Plenty of room on the beach to enjoy yourself. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

The only thing that has changed about this campground since 1990 is the nightly rate. The bath house is dirty, and the sewer stops up frequently. It is the nicest campground in the area near the ocean. I would not stay there otherwise. We camped here in a camper.
