The WiFi was only available at their office and the very few sites near the office. I could not receive WiFi from site 10 ( about 100+ yards from the office ) and moved to site 15 ( about 40+ yards from the office) to get it. But 15 was very unlevel, and I had to use borrowed blocks to make it work with my rear wheels off the ground! And they charge $5 for the WiFi. I noticed the manager/owner just walking around tending to flowers and trees while the young ones ran the office. One of them was helpful with my problems. I noticed a few campers that could not get into their site because of overhanging tree limbs that should have been cut back. All in all a not very well maintained campground. I would not stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Shubie sort of grew on me during the three days we stayed, perhaps because it is different than most campgrounds. It is a bustling, busy place near a very interesting city and with good WiFi right in the site for a change. On arrival, we were given an undesirable site by a chain link fence and playground and asked for a change, which was done without problem. Staff was young but pleasant. Not much privacy between sites and ours needed a lot of leveling. Showers were 50 cents for 3.5 minutes. Just a few minutes drive across the bridge (one Looney) into the city. A large Atlantic Superstore Grocery is not far from the RV park. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Location is suburban Dartmouth. Young adults running it are not knowledgeable about RVs, site requirements (TT vs MH), etc. It was chaotic checking in. Adjacent to Halifax but costly to keep going over the main toll bridge. Would try to stay west or north of Halifax. Sites need leveling. Fine for TT. Not so good for MHs. We camped here in a Motorhome.
We had a great time here. The office staff was very helpful. The sites were fairly big. There were bike and walking trails (with off leash dog hiking trails) nearby. It was very close to Halifax. We enjoyed our time here. The only drawback was that we had a non-sewer site and needed the "honey-wagon". Rather than a big tank, they used a smaller blue tank and had to make multiple trips to empty. The first trip was $10, with subsequent trips 5 each. We would stay here again. We camped here in a Motorhome.
The only reason to stay in this park is its LOCATION. The sites are wide but short an none are real pull throughs although declared as such. About 60 of the 99 sites are outside the park in the "overflow area". Only four sites have sewer, but all have power and water. They offer a dump service, which is basically one of their kids show up with a 25 Gallon Blueboy trying to do his best without having a clue. They charge $10 for 25G and then $5 for the next trips until the tank is empty. The dump station outside of the park is a real mess. Just a small hole in the sandy ground, no concrete around it. The sand is saturated with whatever people spill when they dump and it stinks. Washers and Dryers are old and dirty. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Shubie was a wonderful park from which to base our Halifax/Peggy's Cove days. Night-time security, helpful staff, laundromat, Wi-Fi for $2, nearby bus route, easy drive to ferry terminal for going to Halifax, large grocery within 5 miles. We were at Shubie over Canada Day. We recommend reservations! Park is actually in a nice residential neighborhood, but has all the feel of "country." We also arranged a hiking day to Cape Split and Blomidon Provincial Park with Great E.A.R.T.H. Expeditions with pickup at Shubie: a fantastic day! We camped here in a Motorhome.
Moved here from the KOA West way up north to do Halifax. It's choose your spot from those available, which is nice. Site was level; space between was more than adequate, the staff knowledgeable. Bus service is a 10 minute walk and takes you to the ferry to Halifax. I drove to the ferry terminal and think it is better. Bus only runs once an hour. The downgrade is for two reasons. First, the WiFi worked very sporadically, if at all and they charge $2 to use it. A one time charge no matter how long you stay. Second for the price, I thought the showers should have been free. They aren't. It's probably the best CG in the Halifax area and if we come to this area again, I'd use it. We camped here in a Motorhome.
Under new management since last review, we had friendly & professional service from both reservation & check-in staff. Wifi available in limited area close to office. New electric/water hookups, clean sites, very family friendly atmosphere. There is a sand (lake) beach with swimming, a historic canal to walk or bike along, and stores/movies etc in a new shopping center past the canal walk. You can take a city bus or drive to Dartmouth-Halifax ferry. We would stay again. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.
They got our reservations confused, they do not record reservation properly, double booked us on same site, grass was not mowed, uneven sites, trash nearby, more of a teenage party camp ground. Fought to have refund, will never return here again. We camped here in a Tent.
