This is one of those CGs that has so much to do, you could stay for a week and not leave the CG. Kids have loads to do. Nice, level (but narrow sites unless you are in the deluxe sites). Proof of the freedom of our nation jet noise can be bothersome to some but I LOVED it!! Free parking near the beach for guests. Overall I rated it a 10 because it deserved it.
Wi-Fi was available but was unable to connect. Strong signal for AT&T web service though. Close quarters between sites but still plenty of room. Water pressure was excellent. Kids loved the fishing and feeding the ducks especially the babies. No playground or swimming pool. A couple of excellent restuarants within walking distance (1/2 mile). You would have a chance to walk off part of the sumptuous meal by the time you get back to the CG. DONT USE MAPPING PROGRAM to get here: follow the signs and turn right on Route 11.
This is a GEM in the crown of the award winning Virginia State Parks. We had a group of 7 coaches of the Cardinal Winnies and ALL considered this one of the best and most enjoyable CGs we have visited. Phone service is almost nil. But with a CG such as this one, you forget about the cell service and tend to relax a lot more. Enjoy !!
Excellent facilty. Clean, well maintained and roomy. Friendly staff. Road to/from I81 was narrow and could have been better marked (especially for the return to I81). A word of warning - don't try to book a site on NASCAR weekends. It just won't be available even if you are staying for one night. I would stay here again.
I stayed here on Superbowl nite and could not get my TV to sync with the cable system. I was lucky that the antenna could pull in a fair signal so we could watch the game. I found out the next AM that the connector on the power post was totally shot and consequently no amount of trying to sync the TV to the cable would have worked. I would have given this facility a ten otherwise because the staff was kind enough to call me when I was about an hour from Texarkana and informed me that they wanted to close and go watch the game also. They told me which site was mine and how to get there. The road noise that night was non-existant because of the game so it was a quiet night. I would stay here again.
Except for I40 traffic (especially the truckers using their jake-brakes on the incline), this campground was very quiet. In fact, we were the ONLY campers in the facility. We only stayed for one night in transit but the value was acceptable. I would stay here again if in the area either in transit or staying for a while.
Like almost all of the other campers, I heard the traffic noise from I40 but I was so tired, it didn't bother me. The campground was clean, well organized, and well-staffed. I especially was pleased with the autotransformer that was on my 50-amp power station. That gave me a little bit more peace of mind. I will make it a point to stay here when I need a spot for the night in this area.
