Very nice campground with large campsites, widely spaced, easy pull through sites. The "lake" in this park was nearly dried up. The grounds were also very dry. Friendly and helpful staff. There were very few campers this time of year.
Used Passport America rate $18.00. Friendly staff. Arrived late in the dark and left early in the dark, so didn't see much of the campground. The sites were large pull through and were setup to be used in cold weather. Grounds were clean with a few permanent residents. A good overnight stop.
Wi-Fi (weak) is available next to each shower-house, and the main office. Half the sites are in the woods and half are on the ocean-bay. Very beautiful well kept park. Friendly staff. We stayed here during the duck hunting season, so the loud airboats woke up the ocean front sites two hours before sunrise, then the snooze alarm went off 1/2 hour before sunrise, when the shooting started. Just noisy, not dangerous. The wooded sites have low hanging branches from the Live Oak trees, so tall rigs must use care. The office person told us which roads to avoid for branches. Sound travels well over the bay, especially at night, we could hear distant heavy machinery running. Fishing was poor in the bay, you need a Texas license if you step in the water, but not if you fish from shore in any state park. Whooping Cranes winter here.
Parked here in the rain, site was muddy, we left a mud trail down the highway when we left. The Wi-Fi was really weak and next to useless as they put us out, far away from the office. Staff was very helpful and friendly. I'd stay here again but would ask for a less muddy site. There were plenty of vacant sites. And I'd ask to be near the Wi-Fi router. We used a PA discount.
Very nice campground and staff. The only problem is the noise from the nearby highway. We camped here to be near Riverwalk and Alamo. The Alamo (free) is surrounded by skyscrapers. It is difficult to find RV parking near the Alamo or Riverwalk. We took the Riverwalk boat tour, well worth the $8.50. Leaves every 1/2 hour starting at 9:00AM. So we took the city bus $1.10 one way, from the KOA, they electronically announce the stops. 25 minute bus ride to the Riverwalk from the KOA. The Wi-Fi connection at KOA is really strong.
