We stayed here twice this month--once on our way to our destination and this last time on our return home. I have to rate this as one of the better parks we've stayed in. The reason I only rate is an 8 is the fact that it is close to train tracks and the trains pass by day and night several times an hour. The management is very friendly and I give extra credit to the fact the they have a policy that active duty military personnel stay free! They also give retired military a discount. Our site was gravel and level. The Wi-Fi was not particularly fast, but it worked. On our first stay there a week ago, I was told at check-in that they were upgrading their Wi-Fi and that it might be sporadic. It was, but on our latest stay they had it fixed and it worked fine. If you are looking for a park in Gallup, NM I highly recommend this one.

We stayed here a week ago on the first night of our trip and then again tonight on our return trip. This is a good campground for an overnight stay. The sites are gravel and our site was level. We had a pull-through site but it wasn't long enough to keep our toad hooked up to our 28' RV. However, there is parking at the site for the towed vehicle. On our first visit a week ago, the staff was friendly and helpful. On today's visit, the visit the office was closed and a sign directed us to do a self-service registration. We found an empty site and then filled out the registration form and put the required money in the envelope and deposited it in a mail slot for the office. When registering this way, the only real drawback is that cash is required so you have to have the proper change. Wi-Fi worked well without any lapse in service and the speed was acceptable. Although this is a "no-frills" type of RV park, I think it is the best in Socorro and is worth the stay if you need to stop in this area.

We were a little disappointed in this RV park, although if I would have read more of the reviews on this site I wouldn't have been surprised. First, check-in was smooth, and the staff is friendly. The first surprise was when I went to hook up the advertised cable TV, I couldn't find the connection. I went to the office to inquire about this and was told that although cable TV hookups are available at some sites, most of the park is not wired for cable. Obviously, our site was one of those that did not have cable. I think their site and brochure should state that cable TV is available at "select" sites. Similarly (as stated by other reviewers), they advertise Wi-Fi. It is true that Wi-Fi is available but it does cost extra ($4.95/day). Our site was not level and, yes, the sites are very tight. We had to settle for a back-in site, and although our RV is only 28' there wasn't a lot of room in front and back to maneuver to try and get our RV level. Side-to-side, the sites are also very tight. The good news is there are trees for shade, but they can definitely restrict your ability to open your awning, like it did us. Our site also slanted from back to front which did result in our sewer line going slightly uphill. Probably our biggest complaint is that although their rules state "tents are not permitted on your RV site", that didn't stop the staff from assigning the space directly behind us (right out our bedroom window) to campers in a tent. Like I stated earlier, the site was not real long so the tent behind us was extremely close. Although the campers in the tent were not overly loud, just the simple fact that they were in a tent meant we could hear them talking when we were in our bedroom and trying to sleep. There is a tent area in the campground, but this tent was nowhere near that. The location is good and close to several of the main tourist attractions in the area, but they definitely need to make it more clear what amenities are available and adhere to their own rules (i.e., no tents in RV sites).

We are new to RVing and this was the first RV park we've ever stayed at and we were very impressed. We chose this RV park because of the reviews and ratings on this site and have to agree with those who have previously posted positive comments. Our rate was the Passport America 50% off rate. The welcome was friendly, including literature about the RV park and surrounding area (and one free DVD rental). The pull through site was large enough for our 28' RV and our toad. Although our toad was parked next to the RV (plenty of room) for most of our stay, it was nice that there was not a need to immediately unhook it upon arrival, plus the fact we were able to hook it back up the night before our departure. The sites are dirt/gravel (maybe the only real negative) but plenty big enough and included a picnic table. Wireless connection was excellent and at a decent speed. On check-in I was given a list of their 7 or 8 wireless servers and told we could connect to any of them. The location, for us, was excellent since we were traveling from El Paso, TX and the park is located just before entering the town so we didn't have to drive the RV through town. Although we used our RV shower, my wife and I did check out the restrooms/showers (since this was our first RV park.) We were both very impressed at their cleanliness. Each shower "stall" had two rooms behind a door--the shower and a private dressing area. We also did not use the indoor pool but went in and looked at it. It looked fine and people were in it. We will definitely stay there again anytime we are staying in Carlsbad. I rated it an 8 not because there were really any problems, but because I want to leave some room for high ratings if we find a better one.
