Was greeted by the owner with a big slice of pizza in his hand. He showed me the rate schedule and I agree with a previous post that they nickel and dime you to death. For a 30amp site back from the road with cable TV would have been right at $50. Then I noticed at the bottom of the price menu that anybody who visits you at your site has to pay $5 per person "access fee." WHAT? I've never heard of that. I didn't stay and won't ever go back.
While the park may accept "big rigs", not every site is "big rig" friendly. A gentleman next to me had trouble negotiating a 24 ft 5th wheel into a pull through site. Our site, #29, was very unlevel and since we were only there for one night, we ultimately settled on a little more nu-levelness than usual. The park does have a lot of trails, neat and clean, very friendly staff in the office. Quiet at night. Will definitely stay again.
Located on Highway 12 in DeQuincy about 1 mile from the Railroad Museum. Next door to Kenny's Catfish Hut: awesome food. A little road noise and some train noise: not objectionable. He gives you that homegrown southern hospitality. Would definitely return.
We stayed at Benchmark during Hurricane Ike evacuation. The owner/manager was AWESOME! From our first phone conversation, he definitely put me at ease. He quieted my concern of a fully functioning Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi worked very well and allowed us to stay in touch with what was going on back home. The bathroom/laundry room is "squeaky clean" and very upscale homey looking. I loved the tile work. Enough cannot be said for this owner who made our evacuation stay most pleasant. Perhaps next time our stay will be under more pleasant conditions. When you stay, you will not be disappointed. Note: our nightly rate reflects a Good Sam discount.
This park has the ultimate host for an "evacuee". He made everything smooth. He remembered our site from a year ago. The WiFi was awesome: that enabled me to keep up with weather in Louisiana. I stayed only two nights, but could have easily stay a month or more if needed. This park is appropriately named. I will be back. THANKS for everything!
A good value...WI-FI worked very well...lot was as level as most...dirt site...dirt road...no cable TV...what channels we did get was poor...not many choices for RV parks in Brenham...lighting in this park is very poor...one light up front and that's it...it's not comfortable to walk your pet at night...for the money we paid it was a good value...he doesn't show his prices on the website...and he has since gone up since we stayed there...if you are looking for a short term...you won't be disappointed...don't know that I would stay there long term...
Excellent location, very friendly staff, very well lighted, and maintained, cement parking pad (it could be a little bit wider), water was out waterway in back of campground, nice pet walking area, because units are so close together I do not consider this a long term site, short term definitely, would absolutely recamp there again for three days or so.
Everything you read is true! This is an awesome place. Everything about this park exudes peace and comfort: from the site layouts, hiking trails, to the park rangers. We stayed 3 days. Time went by much too fast! Butterflies, hiking trails and the ambience. We must experience again! P.S. If you're pulling a big rig, consider going up the Paris side. Havanna is much more difficult. We found out the hard way. When we got to the park, one of the rangers said someone should have told us. But we made it. Feeling our success. When we left, we drove Scenic 7 from Russellville to Harrison. And we made that too.
Everything we have read about this park is true...the bigget PLUS is the customer service...the staff did EVERYTHING to make our stay wonderful...and our visit to Nashville was better because of their efforts...Grayline showed up every time and gave us wonderful tours...parking is a little tight...but everything else outweighed that...and we weren't there much...we were touring...WIFI worked excellent...we really enjoyed our stay here...would definitely stay again...
Friendly staff. When the Wi-Fi went out, one staffer was most helpful in getting it back up immediately! They have no directions to their park on the website, other than to say: "We're next to the Ozark Folk Center." So we followed the directions to the O/ F Center. Had to make a tremendous climb out of a parking lot. So be careful. One worker showed me the map they advertise in one magazine. Only problem is: we didn't come to the park from that magazine. Get precise directions early. It was being comfortable next to the Folk Center, which is the reason we were here. You MUST see Blanchard Caverns. This park is good for 2-3 days, not much more. We would return here.
Nice view of the Mississippi, friendly staff, and directions to the park are easy to follow. WIFI is poor: I went all around the park and got no better than two weak bars, even directly under the antenna. We could not use WIFI while at this park. If you advertise WIFI, have it fully functional. Tom Sawyer did not! Only one bathroom and shower (meaning one shower and one commode) for all 80 sites. When someone is using the shower it also locks out the bathroom, and vice-versa! Somewhere close by is a huge NASCAR racing track. Check out the schedule before you go, the sound is horrible, and it went to almost ll PM that night! We stayed at Tom Sawyers due to the tremendous reviews at RV Reviews. We were disappointed and would not camp there again.
We called from the road...200 miles out...a site was reserved...when we got there...at 10PM...we had no site...nothing but excuses...no apologies...the manager claimed a double booking...and we were made to suffer...this woman has no business being in the RV park business...we drove on to Carthage Texas and found a wonderful place with very friendly people...in addition to the verbal misbehavior...the place is muddy, crowded and right next to the interstate...
The stage was set with my first phone conversation with the owner. He had a friendly, caring tone in how he answered my questions. The park is about 30 minutes South of Branson, and 30 minutes East of Eureka Springs. Quiet and with spacious sites it truly is an oasis after a day of touring. We went into Branson on three different days and the drive was extremely nice. Cable was not available; however, we caught 7 different channels with the RV antenna. WiFi is exceptional: consistent and very fast. The owner is in the process of building a huge pond that is going to be stocked with catfish. This RV park certainly has the correct name: there are many wonderful views from various RV sites. We had a GREAT time and look forward to our return.
Road to the park is bumpy and not paved, staff was not friendly, road through park in narrow and windy, 34 ft 5th wheel "squeezed" through, sites are very close together, week-end crowd is very loud, management did not attempt to quieten, would not recamp at this park.
The owner/manager set the stage upon our arrival. A smile and a great big hello greeted us in a well decorated registration area. He showed us around and taxied us to our site. We especially liked the free daily Houston paper and the ice. Off the main drag, quiet, easy access to the highway and Houston, well maintained landscape and just some of the pluses. Free WiFi and Cable. When you combine everything this park has to offer, I would definitely stay here on my next trip to the Houston area...even if it meant having to drive a little further.
These two are true southern hospitality! Everything is neat, clean and works. He is "johnny on the spot" with any request to make your stay better. No cable TV, excellent Wi-Fi, walking track across the road, 3 miles from Lake Charles. You will not be disappointed.
I camped there almost a year ago. Wish I had known about this site immediately after my experience. I agree with all of the negative comments that have been made at this site. An early morning call on the day of arrival to confirm our site indicated our reservations had not been handled correctly. Another call about two hours out confirmed that nothing had been done to correct the situation. Upon arrival we did have a site. The Workkampers were not friendly. Despite several requests, the cable never did work. It was included in the price and no adjustment was ever made. I would not return to Oakwood RV Park.
