We stayed here a week while in the area. They have a nice lake but no fish. It rained most of the time we were here and the roads, not being paved, held up pretty good. Be aware: on the weekend the park fills up, and I mean to the brim. We stayed down across from the office so we could still see the water from our site. If we go back, we will stay in the back, away from the weekend traffic. We will return if we are in the area.
Very nice campground. This is not a destination campground but it is a good place to stop on the way. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Most of the sites are easy access for larger rigs. There are a number of trees so antenna access was limited. WI-FI worked well here. We stayed here for a week.
Just wanted to up date this review. We stayed here in January and the park is better than ever. We had a little trouble with the electric but we were using an electric heater and when it was off all was well. The campground owner allowed us to move when our site was flooded and they put us on higher ground. Real nice owners and the work campers here are real helpful. We stayed here for the month. We will stay here again when we are in the area.
This is not a destination park. If you have to visit Dallas Texas for any reason this would be a nice place to stay for a short period. Nothing fancy here but not a bad park for parking. No Bath houses or laundry. No pool but they do have some nice ponds to fish in. Not sure I would eat the fish. Pull throughs are OK but if it rains they can get muckier. Had no problem getting my 37 foot 5th wheel in the pull through site but did have some problem leveling up due to soft ground. Overall this is a nice park and the residence here are real nice. A few RVs need some repair but overall most are nice rigs. We will continue to use this park when we are in the area.
We did not get the good rate the reviewer below got but what we paid was well worth the money. We were here for a rally. The staff here did a wonderful job of serving us and making us feel at home. We don't normally pay this much for an RV site but this was worth it. Beware the GPS will not take you here. When you come off the Interstate it wants you to turn south...do not...go north on Goat Creek Road...You can see the Park from the exit.
We stopped here for the evening after a long drive up from South Texas. We asked if they had a space for us but instead of getting a yes or no answer we got a lecture on why we should have made a reservation. Not only once but three times we were told we should have made a reservation. We have traveled all over the US and stayed at many parks without reservations without a problem much less a lecture. The lady at the desk might have been trying to be cute but to weary travelers this was not cute. We left out through the park and noticed they had several sites vacant... We found another RV park right down Interstate 20 that had no problem taking us in without a reservation or lecture. We will not be back there nor will the 650 members of our RV Club be using this park again.
We arrived here late after being rudely treated at the KOA down the road. This was a Sunday night and the office was closed. They had a list of sites available with 50 amps taped to the door. We chose one and pulled in. We were parked next to the Interstate but the noise was not all that bad. The next day the owner was very gracious in welcoming us to the park and gave us directions on using the free Wi-Fi...which by the way was very good. We had good Verizon Air Card coverage and enjoyed our stay. Not a destination park but has a good location if you are visiting Abilene. We will come back and stay again when in the area.
I would have given this one a 10 but not all the sites are accessible as I would have liked. They need to trim up some trees to allow access to some of the better sites. All restrooms were clean and the entire park is absolutely beautiful. If you want a quiet spot to spend a restful stay: this is the place to go. The walk around the lake is peaceful. I will come back here as often as I can.
This is a winter park. If you are looking for a shady spot in the summer heat this is not the place for you. Winter time would be good here. There is no swimming pool and not one tree. The laundry facility is good, WI-FI works well at no charge...good Cable...no visible staff. You make a reservation and when you arrive you pick your envelope up at the kiosk in front. The envelope has your site # and location map inside. Fill out the paperwork and return it to the drop box. Good location for access to East Dallas area.
I would have given this park a higher rating if they had given me something for the $40.00 a night rate besides a parking spot with FHU. Not a bad park but the price knocks us out of using it for a place to stay while at the casino. I like to have my money for the machines...$30.00 more and I can have a room with a view...Won't use this park any more.
We came in on a Sunday after the crowd had left for the week. What a wonderful camp spot. We stayed in site 46 which was a little hard to back in to but we got in. We parked so our awning would be on the East side and would not get the afternoon sun. Real nice place to stay. Friendly staff and park is very clean. You can fish for free with no license.
We have lived here at Sandy Lake for 3 years now and find it to be a safe and comfortable Camp Ground. It's located close to down town and many restaurants and stores makes it a convenient location for full timers working in this area of the state. Yes many sites are cramped but for a good place to stay close in to Dallas this is one of the best we have found. The front desk staff are friendly and reasonable monthly rates include electricity.
