We camped here using our ROD membership and found this to be a quaint, clean, friendly campground. We had to use our ground satellite as our dome was not able to pick up DISH. The grounds were neat, the facilities clean, and we enjoyed walking our dogs around the camp. I did notice some campers not picking up after their dogs, but they seem to be overnighters, because we did not see them after that time. We enjoyed the sightseeing around the area; the brewery, winery and shopping are nearby. The place was quiet, and we met some nice campers. We enjoyed touring New Orleans and the surrounding areas. We would certainly come back again. I gave it this rating because we could not get good cell/internet service and no free wifi. Managers came by in the evening to check on how things were, and we were pleased to see them interested and making the time to stop by for a visit.
We camped here in the off season so there were many sites available. The staff was friendly, the camp neat and tidy, pool/spa very clean and water temp was comfortable. Since it was off season the staff is cutback thus not as many organized things to do but we normally do a lot of stuff on our own anyway. We came in at the time that the "love bugs" were in season. Our coach was covered with them and you must wash them off as acid from the dead bugs can eat the paint off your vehicles. We were told that there is a drought and there would be a $100 fine for washing vehicles. You are allowed to bucket wash off the bugs so that is what we did but we did notice that some RVer's that came in after we did used hoses to wash off their vehicles. But for the most part everyone did their part. The park is quiet but near the highway so you will always hear the traffic no matter where you park. We parked midway and found the noise not too bad. The hiking trails were nice; if you are a walker you will find that you can get all the miles you need walking around the camp and it is pleasant. We found the sites to be roomy and had no problem with the power, but again this is off season. Overall, this is a good, clean, friendly campground we are Thousand Trails members so we used our membership to camp here. We are on our way up the east coast for the summer. We would camp here again.
I would like to list all the things we enjoyed about the park and then list the items that we felt need improvement. Pros: Good location to area entertainment/activities, nice spacious sites, good view of ocean, nice friendly staff, 50amp availability, speedy check-in. Cons: The major con is the lack of enforcablity of the parks rules. This created weekend campers to allow their dogs to roam freely, one dog (boxer) rushed towards a young child, then still loose, rushed towards a woman walking causing her to become shaken. The owners of the dog taunted her because she yelled at them about the dog. The weekenders constantly had loud music at all different campsites, more than 2 vehicles parked in one campsite, it looked like "shanty town" with all the canvas tents that were set up along the trailers, RVs. Multiple families at some sites with vehicles parked at empty sites. Weekenders not considerate of other campers, they would walk right through our patio area, even when we were outside. We could not let our small dogs outside in their pen for fear of the loose dogs in the park and the owners not caring for them. Loud music, bad language and very loud voices, not picking up after their pets. I had to scoop up because they would walk their dogs and then leave the waste. Nasty, bags of trash left at the site after they left: not taking them to the dumpster! There were several times on our walk in the evening that people would be walking with their dogs unleashed, inconsiderate! No fishing signs ignored and I saw staff just drive by and not say anything to them. We looked forward to the weekdays because we knew it would be a different story. We would come back but would probably request a different area to park, or come when it is not open to the public. If the staff would enforce their rules and make rounds to enforce them I think a lot of this would be eliminated. We camped under a Readycampgo card, the price was right but I would never paid regular price for what we got.
