This campground would rate 10 stars if they had more shade trees. The campground seems fairly new and most of the trees were small and not effective for shading the campsites. Everything else was wonderful. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the sites had full hookups, the rate (with Good Sam Discount) was very reasonable, the showers, bathrooms, and laundry facilities were immaculate. Note that the laundry room had washers and dryers (all seemed new) but no laundry sink. The swimming pool and playground were well maintained and, in the August heat, the pool was the social gathering spot for the campground.
Very nice state park with clean restrooms and showers. You do need to pay to use the showers, but the rates are reasonable and I'd wager a guess that the fee is the reason the showers and restrooms are as nice as they are. Many of the sites have excellent shade trees, and the Lake is very accessible. We will probably camp here again.
We stayed for an overnight at the Vineyards Campground and found it quite pleasant. We made our reservation at the last minute and ended up in a site (#7) that did not have any trees for shade. It did appear that most sites were well-shaded. Our site had a beautiful view on 3 sides of the lake, but we were far enough back that I didn't worry about the dog or the toddler getting too close. We didn't use the restrooms/showers, but we checked them out while exploring, and they were very clean. The playground area had equipment for both big and little kids, and the little patch of sandy beach was a big hit with the kids. The campground would benefit from a swimming pool (Texas summers are hot!) and a small general store, neither of which were available at the time of our stay. They were doing construction on the other side of the campground though, so they may be in the works. Overall, a pleasant experience, and we will probably stay here again later in the year.
