Vogel is one of our favorite state parks in Georgia! We had a site directly on a stream this May, and it was just heavenly! The kids played in the stream, rode their bikes, ate ice cream from the camp store, played putt putt, hiked the trails and swam in the lake. There is also a CCC museum that is very interesting to tour. One negative is that you can't resserve a specific site (all Georgia State Parks), and when you're camping with a group like we do, it makes it difficult to all end up in the same area when everyone is first-come-first-serve. We've camped all over Georgia, and Vogel is definitely one of my family's favorite state parks.

We love Topsail! It's such a good campground for the children to ride bikes anywhere they want to go. Adults too! The campsites are clean and well-manicured. We loved the paved pads. We prefer the sites in the back of the park. The bathhouses were conveniently located and kept very clean. The biggest negative is the distance to the beach. I rode my bike every day, and it's about one mile to the boardwalk, and I'm not sure how long the boardwalk is, but once you make it there, it's quite a hike. There is a tram service, but it only runs on the hour (it needs to run every 30 minutes), so if you miss it, you've either got a mile hike or you wait another hour. We hauled our beach equipment to the beach on the first day and left it there safely at the end of the boardwalk for the balance of the week. If Topsail Hill was closer to the beach, it would be the ideal campground! But if your family members all have bikes, it's not that big a deal, and we will definitely go there again.

We chose Periwinkle Park because we love Sanibel, and it's the only campground on the island. We found out we also loved Periwinkle Park! My kids rode their bikes all over the campground, visited the birds and lemurs, and just had a great time. The campground isn't on the beach, but the bike ride to the closest public beach access was very close and easy. The bath houses were acceptable, although not new, but fine. Two negatives were no pool (no big deal, you've got the ocean!), but a more important negative was no cable TV which is important to my family. We love the laid-back feel to the campground and the island. Great restaurants! It was the one of the best, most relaxing vacations we've ever had. We would definitely go back - maybe even next spring!
