We arrived late on a Saturday and found there was a rodeo and dog show taking place in this huge facility. Wandered in the dark to find our spot, only to find it occupied. Someone had stayed over but didn't tell management & our spot was filled by an RV that had a reservation for that occupied site. Office was closed and we 'squatted' that night in an empty site with water & electricity. Had reservations for 3 but left after one night. An ideal location for someone attending or participating in one of the many horse or dog events that are held there.
Very nice facilities near Big Bend National Park & the RV park is park of Lajitas Resort & Spa. The restrooms, laundry, and pool area were very nice but lightly occupied during our 3 night stay in Feb. You can use the facilities at the resort located a short distance away and there is a very nice restaurant. Resort overlooks the Rio Grande River.
This was our first long term winter outing and we spent 3 months at Desert Trails. There are so many activities to get involved in (or not) and the management is extremely friendly and accommodating. Rural setting away from the hustle & bustle of Tucson but close enough to shopping and restaurants. Many of the residents get involved in projects that improve the park. For example, volunteers created a miniature golf course & a croquet area in the middle of this former waterpark. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have reservations for next season.
