We use James River State Park as our site for the 2009 Virginia Spring Pop-up Portal Rally. We had 16 pop-ups there and over 60 people. Sites are very large and most are very shaded. The campground is not real close to the river but is a real nice area. Bathrooms is nice and they keep it very clean. They have canoe rentals at the park for some fun on the river! This is one of our favorite places to go. We will return again!
We chose to start our 2009 camping season a hour from our house. Bear Creek is a older park with smaller sites. Some site are hard to get in due to trees in the way but we enjoyed it!!!! Sites by the water are mostly for tents. A loop is mostly tents and a few electric sites and are tight for anything over 20 feet. B and C loop are bit bigger and easier to get into. We enjoyed the park we went back for the forth and enjoyed the lake and the area. Will recommend to anyone who likes a place to relax and not break the bank!!!
