The only thing lacking for us is TV cable hookup. I did not even look at the laundry room so I cannot comment on that. The restrooms and showers were very clean. We were in a site near the road and there was some noise from that. The place has some really beautiful flowers and landscaping and each site has a fire pit and picnic table. We were in a shaded spot. The value for the price was very good, considering just down the road it is only $5 less at a Provincial park with no hookups, showers, or flush toilets. Don't get me wrong, we frequently stay in state and provincial parks, but I think $25 is a bit high for such places.
This is a huge place that is actually a replica of a frontier town, but not much of it is open. There used to be a restaurant, bar, etc but the owner is attempting to sell and it is now simply a campground. The restrooms/showers were huge and although I did not use it, the laundry room was also quite large with huge washers and dryers. The owner and his wife are a hoot! They know just about everything about the area, especially the fishing aspect. If fishing is your thing, this is the place to be. As I said, the place is for sale, but it is still being maintained and we found it to meet our needs at a cost much less than had we stayed in Homer. If you are a Passport member, there is a good discount on the rate.
We have stayed in three different campgrounds in Valdez and I like this one the best. It is under new ownership and the office people were very friendly and informative. I was especially impressed with the cleanliness of the restrooms/showers. Throughout the day, they were cleaned and there was no time that I found them lacking. This was even more impressive when you take into consideration the number of people who were staying there.
We had previously stayed here in 2011 and found it to be in a very rundown condition. When we returned this time, it was greatly improved. When speaking with the manager, she told me that for several years she had not been there due to health issues. Upon her return, she has been making significant improvements. It is still a rustic place, but so is the rest of Hyder. The location is fine for a quick drive to bear viewing and close enough to walk to most other sites in Hyder. I like the paperback book exchange which had a large selection. Although we did not use the laundry facility, I think it does need to be updated. I also do not like having to pay for showers. I would rather that be included in the price. Showers cost 3 loonies. We will stay here again.
The neatest thing about this park was that we had wi-fi. The restrooms were clean and the staff was friendly. There is a nice museum and group led hikes into the canyon. I enjoyed a short hike to the rim of the canyon. We would stay here again.
We stayed at this park for four nights and found it to be quite nice, especially cable and internet which is not always available in this remote area. The restrooms and showers were very clean. There was a meeting room and an area for TV watching. The hosts were especially friendly. We will stay here again.
We really liked this campground. The staff was very friendly. Since we were in a Scamp 19 ft 5th wheel, we especially enjoyed the large meeting room. The weather was bad and I was able to do yoga in that room. We will stay here again.
We stayed here for 3 nights and the only negative is the shower house is very old and could have used an upgrade which would have improved the ability to keep it cleaner. Other than that, this is a wonderful park located within walking distance of the beach, across the street from the Sea Lab and adjacent to the bird sanctuary. While we were here the snow birds hosted a pancake breakfast. This is a very quiet park and is ideal for a long-term stay.
Big bang for the buck. This is a great location, with lots of shaded sites. The only negative is the only shower/toilet is located in the office building. It was very clean, but I would have preferred that there be additional facilities, rather than one for male and female. Except for that, I would have rated higher.
