The campground was not crowded in the least, which might explain the technique used when they made my reservation. I called two nights before for a reservation and was only asked for my name, size of my trailer and the dates I wanted to come in. I was a bit uneasy since I didn't have to leave a deposit, wasn't given a confirmation number or a site number. The morning of my arrival I called ahead to confirm and was told I could check in early if I wanted. When I arrived, there was no written reservation for us, but they checked us in with no problems. Since there wasn't a clamoring for spots, this technique worked just fine. The front office staff was very helpful and efficient. I was not aware that propane refill requests needed to be made prior to noon for same day service, and even though it was 1:30 when we checked in, they put us on the propane refill schedule. Nice service; we left the empty tank at the front of our site, and a truck came by and filled it. Rarely saw any of the other campers...it was quiet and nearly empty. The restrooms were clean and the hot water nicely hot. The laundry room is huge. Some of the pull through sites that I saw were very close together, leaving little room between slide-outs. Overall this is a fantastic campground.

This is an excellent State Park. From the moment we checked in to the moment we left, nothing to complain about. The park employees were all very friendly and knowlegdable about the park, its wildlife, and history. The trails are maintained and easy to walk. The canoe livery offers canoes and tubes, either with a tour or on your own. The bathrooms are very clean. The laundry room has a huge stainless steel sink in it and has clean washers and dryers. The camp hosts are very friendly. The sites in Red Oak are shaded with tall trees, plenty of room with our 36" fifth wheel, and mostly level. Each site we saw also had a sand area for tents, and the sites were clean. There was ample room between sites, you're not packed in like sardines. Firewood is $4 for 10 pieces. Bring what you need, nearest town is some distance away. Very well maintained state park.

After reading the not so favorable reviews about the reservation system that this campground uses, I called and confirmed my reservation twice, just to be sure. Since we were going to arrive after the office closed, we were told a note will be left on the office door for us telling us which site we had. As promised, there was a map with our site highlighted, and the best way to get to it was also highlighted. We had one of the parallel pull through sites. There was a trailer already in front of our site and one already in back of our site. Pulling into our slot was not difficult although it was close to their landscaping rails. The next morning we stopped by the office to check in and we spoke with an owner about our concerns about the reservations system and why I had called twice to confirm. We had absolutely no problems with our reservations. Our site had a beautiful view. The sites are nicely spaced and you get a feeling of wide open green spaces because the center of the park is very much like a park. They have a playground for kids, a pavillion, and yurt (where they had singing on Saturday night). The restrooms were clean. This campground is very well maintained and off the beaten path, surrounded by farms. We are very happy we stayed here and will return.

This was our Maiden Voyage in our 36' fifth wheel. The access road is definitely windy, narrow and hilly, just as we were warned, but we managed just fine. We were in spot 6 in Lower Loop C which took a little effort to back into. There are a few tight spots to manuever through for the bigger rigs. Other than that, this campground was fabulous! The staff was professional and friendly, the campground was clean and the best part was the lake. The water was warm and clean (no floating refuse etc). One thing we did wish they had was a water spigot at the dump station. We will return.

We arrived about 10pm (you can check in until 11pm), in pouring down rain. At the camp store, they radioed a host and told us a host will escort us to our site. We waited inside the camp store at the front desk and apparently, the host drove up and waited for us somewhere outside. He finally came in and informed us (not so nicely) that he'd been waiting outside (we didn't know, nor did we see him and we were standing right there at the door watching thru the windows). Maybe it was the rain and the late hour, but we didn't think the tone he took with us was necessary. The bathrooms were clean, but, the pull chain shower in itself was a bit difficult and inconvenient. The grounds are clean and well maintained, but the waterfront sites are all taken by seasonal folks. The sites are very close together and there are golf carts everywhere!
