This is an older and smaller State Park located about 20 miles from the city of Aiken SC. We spend Friday and Saturday there and were actually surprised that we could have spent a few more day since there was more to do then we thought. I originally reserved a pull through site since I thought I'd be making the drive alone but when we got there I really didn't like it. We went to the main office to see about switching but it's only open 11am-12pm and then you have to call the ranger on his cell phone. That wasn't a problem and he was fine with us moving since there were only four other sites in use anyways. For an older, smaller and less popular park, it was well maintained. The bathrooms were cleaned everyday and although the showers were older, they were clean as well as the shower curtain and had great hot water. The sites were dirt/sand packed and all of them were cleared of pine straw so you could tell they were taken care of. There are canoes to rent to take down the Edisto River, an area in the campground to play horseshoes, 3 mile nature trail, great flat surfaces for bike riding, and several ponds and picnic shelters. Although he wasn't at the office, we saw the ranger riding around several times a day and at night so we knew he was around. The only reason I didn't give it a ten was because there was no camp store, you could buy firewood from the ranger but nothing else and the redneck gas station down the road was a little scary. Other then that it served it's purpose as a great weekend getaway and I would love to go back when we have more time.

My family has been coming to Edisto Beach for over 15 years but, unfortunately the family has outgrown the house so we always have to come up with a creative alternative. This year we broke down and bought a camper, cancelled our reservations at the resort, and were lucky enough to find a site in the Live Oak section. We were worried that it wouldn't be nice since it was so far back from the beach and we couldn't have been more wrong. Our site was large and private, just the right distance from the bathrooms and trash can, and wonderfully shaded for the middle of the summer. We ended up spending more time at the campsite than the house and enjoyed one of the most relaxing vacations in a long time. The bathroom was clean, modern and very large. We did see one snake slither from our site and hundreds of giant spiders and webs on the hike to the Indian Mound. The interpretive center was very nice and we were free to go visit the front beach wheneer we wanted to. The only reason I can't give it a 10 is one night the couple across from us got into a loud domestic and were throwing stuff and me and and another camper went to the ranger station and called all the numbers posted and couldn't find anyone or get a response. It settled down so we didn't call 911 and they left the next morning. Other then that it was the perfect trip.

We spent the weekend in Santee and enjoyed it. The bathrooms were as clean as they could be, but I wouldn't use the shower without shoes on or something to stand on. The toilet part was ok and had even been recently mopped when I went in on Saturday. Our site was in the larger Lake Shore area, and was very peaceful and quiet. You'd never believe I-95 is just a little ways up. There was plenty of beach since the water is low, but the steps to get down there were rickety and broken and could be dangerous. Also, every once in a while, we caught wind of a sewer smell even though we were no where near the dump station, still not sure where that was coming from. The campers, camp host and employees were all friendly and most importantly, our antennae picked up the TV station I needed to watch my football game. There was lots of dead wood on the ground to burn and even though you don't feel like you're near town, Santee is just down the road with shopping, groceries and dining if you need it. One warning though, even if you're only staying a couple of days, go ahead and put up your screen tent or porch because the black flies were horrible. Nothing we did got rid of them and they were everywhere. They weren't the biting kind but they were disgusting.
