As of 2013 this RV resort on the Chesapeake Bay is owned by Sun and previous negative comments were while owned by Morgan. It's rural. Nine miles to the small town of Mathews about 30 minutes from Gloucester VA. The road ends at the bay with fishing, boating, swimming, bird watching, and crabbing. We have camped here in two types of RVs. Sun has done wonders to this place in only 4 months so anyone that was here in the past should come back! New pool, landscaping, pool furniture, baby pool, new activities director who goes all out to appeal to all ages, laser tag field, new playground, golf cart rentals, live band many weekends, music in pavilion and on beach, and rental units. There is a dog walk, marina and good sized sandy beach. We were once short termer's now seasonal's looking forward to this resort just getting better and better. Beach and location that is right on Chesapeake Bay brought us and kept us here and we are glad we hung in there!
Pool, lovely low tide beach. Great for kids of all ages. We did not use but marina and ramp. Area well known for fishing and crabbing. Rural, rustic, Middle Peninsula of Virginia. A destination campground. Recommend arriving in day light as rural roads narrow and deep water run-off channels on each side. GPS worked. Closest town is Mathews (10 min) and Gloucester (30 minutes) nice for a meal, movie, groceries. Local main street shops in Mathews fun and very friendly. Campground having a beach on the Chesapeake Bay makes it a special place IMO. I posted in 2009 a not so positive review. Although still an older campground with it's issues hearing help is on it's way! Campground committee's are being established and a good idea. We made the decision to move a travel trailer to New Point for 2012 season so we are giving them a chance. Customer Relations support in NY has been very understanding and helpful to us. Some people complain about dogs on the beach but haven't observed a problem. A dog run in dog walk area would be great and place to refer owners if this becomes an issue. Gates closing at 10PM can be inconvenient. In campgrounds like this one with lots of seasonals feel those residents should take active role in trying to make it better. We were in one for several seasons in NC and great place for all. Campground owners, managers (and residents) that welcome temporary campers should work at "full of seasonals" not being a dirty expression on forums.
We chose this campground because of its location south of DC but convenient to Arlington Cemetery. We were only there for two nights. I walked some of the grounds with our beagle and met and chatted with owner. Very nice and most helpful on recommendations for travel route (by car) to Arlington. There is a wide variety of site types available from those up on a hill side among the trees to those lower down with full hook-up 50 amp which we requested and knew would be costlier. Cable was fine. Have wireless so did not try internet service. It is gravel, winding roads but since we stayed on lower roomier area we had no problem in 38' motorhome with tow vehicle right to site. We found our full hook-up pull-through site (E18) easy to get into including tow. We liked the easy access to the interstate, shopping and restaurants very close by which we used both nights. In November the heat was on at night so RV was closed up tight; no problem with sounds from I-95. We would stay here again.
Rate minus GS discount for 4 nights $180. Very nice, new phase of campground. True resort. Would be great for rallies. Still under development, but pools, bath houses, spa, W/D. RV service center coming. Well lit, full hook-ups with cable. Long, wide site pads. No patio area but understand coming. Callaway Gardens, FDR White House, Warm Springs here. About 30 minutes from Columbus/Ft Benning GA.
We needed a night stop-over for our trip from Raleigh NC to Pine Mountain GA. Easy exit 17 off 85/26, full hook-ups and nice sized site. Stayed on way back too. Served our purpose. Met MH retired couple from Seattle visiting g'children and also Canada, use it as base for TT. Dog had plenty of room to be anchored out. Quiet.
There is very little to find wrong with this resort campground experience. Cable and free internet great. Brief disappointment this trip as we changed sites (not the problem) and way past 3PM before they moved a packed up unit to storage so we could get on reserved site. When domino effect started with people needing to get on our site, they got busy. We have stayed here in our MH and also rented space, which is pricey. Just can't beat all the amenities for all ages in our opinion. Our boys never leave the campground. This area of Myrtle is not great but my husband and I ventured out for dinner quite a bit too.
Great park for all ages. Our first stay here as we usually go to Ocean Lakes. Each site with shelter over picnic table nice. Good breakfasts at lil cg restaurant. Teens stayed happy and going whole time without leaving campground (6 nights). I like this end of Myrtle. It was very hot and no interest in cooking or grilling, lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. We stayed very near beach and pool, great location. I understand MBTP will not reserve a certain site but friends tell me they have never had a problem getting within section they requested. We just told them would like to be as close to pool as possible and were very happy with it. No golf carts which suited us fine. Pretty loud music at pool much of the time which didn't bother me until we changed campgrounds and did notice the difference. Only minus for me was no free internet. My teens still rate Ocean Lakes best. Fireworks at night bother neurotic dog but that's our problem.
Very nice and clean campground. Suited for families with young children or couples. Boring for teens. Quite rural. Bike, walking trail around lake. Huge sites, pool, exercise room, rental boats, rental golf carts. We splurged and rented site with hot tub. No cable and internet $. We had a teenager with us and had not realized exercise room, boats, everything except bikes and pedalboats were restricted to 18 and over. Saw very few teens. This should be made clear on website. He was disappointed as were we. For us this was way too restrictive. Make note if you leave early they will not credit you but will give you raincheck.
