We camp here once a year, this time the final camping weekend of the season. The campground had officially moved to winter season operation the weekend before, but warm temperatures brought out the campers for this weekend. The check-in staff was a bit overwhelmed with the walk-ups, luckily we had a reservation. Given the number of campers and only one rest room remaining open, it was clean throughout the stay, a noted reason we stay here yearly. The hiking and mountain bike trails are awesome. The overall beauty of the park is tremendous. It is a wonderful weekend getaway from the city.
We stayed at Gulf State Park 5 nights. The sites are spacious and level. Shade is hard to come by expect in the loop near the lake. The pool was very nice and beach access was 5 minutes away. The bath houses are some of the cleanest we've ever encountered. The check in staff was very helpful. Even though check in is officially listed as 4pm, we saw campers checking in all hours. The park was less than half full during our stay, so there were no crowds. We would stay here again.
