Located in between the intercoastal waterway and the Atlantic Ocean, this is one of the finest parks we have ever stayed in. Three swimming pools, including one on the ocean, and nice level pads, wide paved roads, who could ask for anything more of an RV park. The only reason I gave them a 8 instead of a 10 is they charge for internet wifi, and they use recycled waste water for watering their grass. Our small dog eyes, and lungs had an allergic reaction, and we had to get our vet on the phone after 10 pm on a Friday night to tell us how to save her.
We like to camp at state parks and at up-scale RV resorts. And this state park is now one of our favorites. We have already made reservations for April of 08. The sites are not wide but some are very deep, and we had no problem backing our 30-foot Class A in and leaving my motorcycle trailer attached. For the price, this is the one of the best deals in a camp site the Florida Keys’ has to offer. Amenities include: Very clean bathrooms and shows, 50 amp hookups, good water pressure, space to leave a boat in the water, two nice beaches, bike paths, tour boats leaving the park for the reef. The only set back is there is no sewage hookup. And bring a couple DVD with ya… Not much TV reception.
We like to camp at state parks and at up-scale RV resorts. Long story short is Boyd’s offers the up-scale cost without the up-scale amenities. What it does have going for it is location; only 4.5 miles from the main area of Key West. The staff is friendly and very helpful, and while it is not a new park, it does offer waterfront boat parking, a small pool, camp store, and laundry facilities. As to the area of town… it is located on the island where most of the locals live who can not afford to live in the main island of Key West. The sites are small but we had no problem parking our 30' Class A. Sure it would be nice to have large shaded RV site, with country club amenities, but we will sacrifice that for the location, when we stay there again.
