What a great place to stay about halfway from Portland area to Idaho. Very spacious sites with a lot of shady, well-maintained grassy areas in between each site. Walking path along the river is paved, and there is a beautiful waterfront park area adjacent to this park. Very quiet and relaxing - in fact we stayed 2 extra days after a long week on the road. There is really nothing to do in the town itself, but it is a great place to kick back and mellow out along the Columbia River.
We have stayed in the older water-and-electric loops before, but this was our first time staying in the newer full-service section just across from the entrance. Nice bathrooms and showers in a central building with 2 picnic pavilions (one for each side of this section). Very nice park with so many activities to enjoy set in a beautiful nature setting, and just a few minutes from the picturesque town of McCall and wonderful Payette Lake. Bring your bikes and enjoy this park and the town at a more leisurely pace. (Also bring the mosquito spray - it has been a wet spring!) Try to stay for 3 or 4 days and enjoy the central Idaho mountains!
The owners are very nice, friendly people who are trying to rejuvenate this park, and it should improve in a couple of years. (This used to be a site owned by a mining company for their workers and has some potential.) Right now, however, the grass is very dry, it is run down, and there are weeds and stickers all over the ground, so be careful with your dogs! The 62 sites is a bit misleading, as only about 25 or so are currently operational. Bathrooms are nice and well kept. We would probably not stay here except Challis was halfway on our way to Montana.
Extremely nice staff, very helpful and courteous. Very well set up for dogs with 3 different fenced in dog runs! Within walking distance to a lot of stores and restaurants and services, which was very convenient for us. Nice shade from big trees, which are trimmed up so even the biggest rigs have no problems with overhanging branches. They offer a nice breakfast buffet each morning and ice cream in the evening (for a fee, of course). I have only 2 small complaints: the sites are a bit close together, and the bathrooms in the middle of the park are smallish. However, there are bigger bathrooms/showers by the office. Great pool and play area for the kids, if you have young ones. We really enjoyed our stay in Missoula!
Very friendly owners and staff. Nice quiet park with big pull-through sites. Beautiful grounds and shaded grassy areas to enjoy. Close to Hwy 95, but didn't hear much road noise at all; only 1 mile from town. Restrooms are combination toilet/sink/shower offering nice privacy, and kept very clean! They are expanding to add 13 new back-in sites very soon. Would have given them a 10 except that the trees next to each site are still small and don't offer much shade yet. Great place to stop halfway between north and south Idaho.
