This review is for the Castle Rock campground in the Fishlake National Forest. We stayed here one night on our 3-week trip and it was the nicest campground we found. Yes it is rustic, but that is the way we like them. The sites were nicely separated by trees and shrubs, the park and restrooms were very clean and we found the campground (on a weekday night) as quiet as it could be. The scenery here is also fantastic! We would definitely stay here again.
The fact that the hosts were friendly did not override the noise (trains and truck traffic all night) or the discomfort of having to park cheek-by-jowl with other campers in what amounted to a parking lot. I was accused by the 'permanent' camper next to me of tampering with his sewer connection (which I had not touched) and did not get much sleep all night due to the constant racket. We would choose a Walmart parking lot rather than ever stay here again.
