We have stayed at various times throughout the red salmon run. The sites are arranged so that most have river view and all are within a 150 feet of the river. There is electric, but water is via a water station. There is a dump site at the gas station next door which is free to those staying at the camp. There is a fire pit and picnic table at each site. There is plenty of space for slides and lots of trees and shade. There is a small store with basic fishing supplies, but no provisions. The staff are helpful and both king and red salmon charters are available on site. Our last trip on 16 August and as the red run was dying down, there were very few campers and we spent a glorious evening grilling fresh fish over an open fire.
There was good and bad here and a rating depends on what you are looking for. We were there for fishing and for that, this site is excellent. If on the other hand you prefer a “camping” feel, then this is not for you. The good: the showers and bathrooms were clean and there is laundry available. There are full hook ups. For fishing, this was perfect, we could roll out of bed at 5:30am and walk the one block to the harbor and on return the freeze and ship location is right across the street, next to a small coffee stand. It is a close walking distance to groceries and restaurants. The bad: The sites are close, our slides could open, but there is not really room to put chairs out and no way to have a fire or other classic camping experience. The staff was okay, but not particularly friendly or helpful, but not unfriendly either. There is no shade or trees, it is basically a parking lot with hook-ups.
Went for the fishing and this worked perfectly. The things that keep it from being a 10 was that our site was not level, there were no trees and no fires allowed. The staff were great, the area and amenities VERY clean and the access easy. There is a walk-in deep freeze is available to store fish while at the resort and a great cleaning area. The charter crew were great and we got our limit on halibut and silver salmon. Highly recommend.
Great walking trails, easy access to the visitor's center, staff were all really nice and very close to beautiful scenery. There was a moose and her two calves bedded down in the site, which was nice as long as you know not to go near them. Spaces are semi-private with lots of trees and easy access. Would definitely use again.
We have used this park multiple times. It is secluded and excludes a fire pit and picnic table with each site. There are approximately 20 sites with electric. The showers are cleaned frequently, but can get messy at high use times. There is no water at any of the sites, but is available near the dump site and showers. There is a dump fee of 5 dollars if not staying in camp. There is a host on site. We have rented one of the rental trailers there which was not the most clean, but the campground is very nice. There is an eagle's nest on site, so watch small dogs. Additionally, there are bear around so don't send the kids off to play in the woods unattended. It is about a 5-10 minute drive to town, but it is a very pleasant place to have a fire and sit with friends and family.
