I usually rate state parks in general an "8" but this one needed maintenance to the sites. The gravel needs to be attended as it has deep ruts on the pads...kids & my parents tripped several times. Otherwise, the state park trail system is one of the best I have ever used and the restaurant at the lodge was very good. Not excellent, but very good.

We just returned from out trip to Pigeon Forge, and this was my favorite campground there so far. We have stayed at one other but toured several. One thing about Pigeon Forge is that the campgrounds are packed in and very tight. I did not feel this way at all about this campground. The sites are some of the largest at a non-state park. We did not have a hearthside or outdoor kitchen site, but enjoyed ours just the same. They have paved patios and full hookups. WiFi was very strong and the cable TV worked great. The only complaints have nothing to do with the campground per se. It is a little farther out than others we have stayed in, but we enjoy Cades Cove, so that was more accessible. Also, there were many, many no-see-ums. So bring your bug spray and citronella. We had candles but I wished for torches. Very quiet and well maintained.

My father and I flew to Indiana to pick up a new motorhome and drove home in one of the snowstorms. We stopped at this KOA, and were the only guests, aside from the hosts. It snowed 6 inches our first night here, and we were stranded. The hosts could not have been more gracious. They put us next to a bathhouse, since we could not use our water. They shoveled a path through the snow so my father could safely walk to the bathhouse (he has two artificial hips). They let us borrow a broom and a ladder to get snow off of our slide awnings. They worked all day the next morning to plow roads and sites. When we left, they plowed us out of our site. Due to the snow blanket, we could not see how the park would look otherwise, but we were so grateful to the hosts and the clean bathrooms that we could not rate this park high enough.

We live close to this campground so took advantage of camping near home. It is small and rustic, but everything we needed. The campground hosts were wonderful, and made us feel very welcomed. The site was level. The trails were good. We would have run out of things to do if it were not for such a short stay (2 nights). I think the biggest attraction is the summer with the lake, but it was too cold for that during our trip.

This campground is immaculate. I did not give it a 10 since the sites are so very close together. All sites are level (concrete pads) and easy to back into. We had an oceanfront site. It was beautiful. The only downside I can give it is that it feels a little sterile since there are very little trees. However, I would gladly come back here again in an instant.

We camped here in a hybrid. The park itself is breathtaking. I did not give it a 9 or 10 since the site was not level. The hiking and trails were excellent. It is very rocky. It is a little nerve-racking driving up to the park with the winding road, but completely doable if one takes his time. The upper campground was as expected for a state park: rustic and sites not too close for us. Bathhouses were clean. We had really bad weather, and the weather notification system (outdoor sirens and announcements) were a plus. The amenities could use a facelift: the playground was really not useable for my children as it had a stream running through it (a lot of rain lately); bad planning.
