Read other reviews and agree with most. As far as the facilities. The bathrooms were dirty and need an update. The lake is nice but you have to be a westerns horizons member or the manager treats you like a second class citizen. He sends you up to the upper tier of camping where I call it the mosquito and tick forest. The whole campgrounds needs a face lift. The clubhouse shows it's age! The game room looks like a bad boy's toy chest!! Broken stuff and outdated. We went there and like I said were treated horribly. I tried to talk to the people about a transfer of my membership. See I moved from the west coast to the mid west. I had a membership out there and this campground was in that network. I paid a huge fee for this membership. Nothing they will do but take more money. I told them I will pay the dues every year but no they wanted the huge initial fee again. And since I didn't pay I was just an average "Joe". Corporate person said it is up to the campground and they can simply transfer you in. For the money they charge the facilities were rough and outdated. Many things to do in the area but as far as the campground forget it. The manager had a huge chip on his shoulder and said "Sorry you will have to stay up on those sites" Not down on the lake because you are not a Western Horizons member!!! Down by the lake they park you so close together you can reach out your window and shake hands with the person next door! But it has a "Lake View" Needless to say we left and NEVER to return again. Like I seen before the best thing about this campground was seeing it in the rear view mirror!
Well we tried something different from our usual campground. This is right on the river. This park is hard to travel through in a RV as it has tight turns. The park shows it's age and is need of some improvement. Has a lot of BUGS! They have activities for kids. Office and the recreation room need air conditioning badly!!! It was hot in there!! Campground was ok. I would come here again but it's not at the top of my list. They do have WiFi but it is a charge. Like I said, we tried something new and you never know until you stay here. The people and staff were friendly!
We have camped here for the last 5 years. Mostly what is said is true. Freeway noise is and can be annoying. You can camp on the other side of the lake closer to the office. The owner is mostly friendly. This used to be a Passport America park with weekends available. Now the owner switched it to Sunday thru Thursday and no June,July,August. Which really stopped us from going more often. I e-mailed the owner about this but I guess that is her right. There are seasonal campers there. Gets windy a lot. Also be ready for the charge for fishing her private lake. I would camp there again but it isn't to me the jewel that the owner thinks she has. It is the closest campground to us in Northwest Indiana.
I was a member here for a couple years. Read all the reviews. Agree with most. Our take is Bass Lake offers a lot of activities. A lot to do: trails, fishing, take the boat out, Pines Village. If you have a car go to Oakhurst and Coarsgold, and Yosemite. The campground can be noisy and what the other member said, the staff can be really rude. They really try to sell you a membership if you are not a current member. Wish they would spend the due money on improvements. It is true sites can be hard to back into. Lots of trees and a small hike, but it's scenic. The manager can be rude and direct at times. You have to come right back at him. It is a nice campground and we would go back. Gets real crowded during the holidays, but what campground doesn't. Have to book way in advance.
Beware!! When we got here, I was blown away! From what you read and see online, this looks like a nice park. NO WAY! It looks like it was stuck in the 70's. Park needs repairs and updating real bad. I attempted to make camp, the kid in the office told me what sites I could not reach water with two 25-foot hoses. Too many seasonal campers and run down sites. Has old fences falling down, lawnmowers and junk in and around the campers. After we couldn't hook up to water I had enough. I got my money back and we got out of Dodge. Went to the Empress Casino close by. Compared to this place the Empress was the Four Seasons. I won't be going back anytime soon.
We go every year here at least once. For a casino campground it is really nice. Has a lot of room with concrete pad, grass and picnic table. We have 2 dogs and a lot of room to walk them. Casino is fun (only if you win). They will pick you up right at the office and will drop you off at your site when you are done. They used to have cable TV years ago. The casino has been sold a couple times and the new owner won't get the tower fixed for cable TV. I did ask, it was hit by lightning. This park use to be Passport America years ago to. But like I said, new owners and that is a thing of the past also. Nice place for a getaway. Always quiet at night if you don't camp by the waterpark real close by. They keep the grounds looking good. Just wish they would fix the cable TV. If you are passing through and need a place to stay I would stay here. I wish they would have club cards like we get at other casino camping if you stay 5 nights get one free. But no such luck. Overall a nice place to visit.
