Very clean park with very generous space between each camper. Shower was unfortunately closed due to Illinois having budget problems, but overall the park was in nice condition. Camping in the wooded area is very unique with pine trees every 15 feet, but branches only at the upper canopy. Small but nice lake within a few hundred yards of the campground. The only water hook up with threads for a hose was at the dump station. Dump station / water fill area is on uneven ground making it difficult to fill or dump tanks completely.
We stayed at this park as guest of Coast to Coast members so the price for us was only $15 per night. Campground was generally clean, staff were friendly and overall a pleasant experience. We camped over a busy weekend so there were challenges for the other campers that showed up on Friday to get electric hookup and water only for those that brought a Y splitter. Full hookup sites were in short supply even though we arrived on Wednesday night. About 1/4 of the campsites are on slopes but workable if you have enough levelers. Depending upon which part of the campground you stay in the sites can be spacious or tight. They have a newer but relatively small playground, the pool was very nice, the mini-golf was playable but not well maintained. The small fishing ponds are nice and the kids were able to catch fish, although not keepers, often enough to not get bored. Campground was generally quiet, except for the train that runs nearby. Cell phone coverage in this area is spotty at best and with AT&T I could only get Edge service. Campground does not have Wi-Fi which for me is a negative. This campground seems to have some long term residents that stay in some fairly run down trailers on one side of the campground I prefer to avoid. In general nice but given a choice I would try somewhere else before staying here again.
Although this campground doesn't have a lot of amenities at the campground it is within minutes of the Minnesota Zoo, Shops, Restaurants, Mall of America, Water Park and even a brand new free sprinkler park. Depending upon your camping style they have everything from full hookups to primitive, all of where were very nice. We have children and they had a great time on the almost new and very well maintained playground on the campground. Most of the full hook up spaces, which is the section where we stayed, have plenty of green, well maintained grass between the spaces. The fire rings were all well maintained and firewood was available for a very reasonable price. The full hookup facilities were in good condition, conveniently located and dedicated to your space. We observed the local policy patrolling the campground several times a day. Overall this is a very clean, safe, and well kept campground. The staff and fellow campers were very friendly and considerate. They don't allow golf carts and fellow campers respectfully observed the quite time at night which made for a peaceful and relaxing visit. Definitely family friendly and an overall great experience. The only reason I didn't give a 10 is because the general store has restrictions after 6:00 p.m. so you can't buy thinks like soda or snacks, just firewood and ice. When we visit Minnesota we will definitely camp her again.
