First the positives. They have an excellent location so you can ride bikes to the beach or to Cape May. Campsites are a decent size and well-maintained. The bathrooms and showers are fantastic! Negatives: Office staff was not friendly at all. First words out of her mouth were not hello or some other greeting, instead it was to announce the amount due! Nice way to start a vacation! No sewer sites were available for the second year in a row, but that may be due to the fact that we reserved only a week before. The dump station is located in a very poor location with an overhanging tree that has probably caught several campers. Also, it's the only campground I've ever been to where the dump station is not pull through. Due to the tightness of the location, you have to try to swing around and then backup before you can leave the dump station area. Overall, the location is what brings me back, not the staff or facilities.
We stayed at Castaways over a very busy Labor Day weekend. Check-in was very fast and efficient. The camp store was well-stocked and the personnel were very friendly. The camp store had a grill section which seemed to have a good selection of food. The beach and dog beach were great to have. The Tiki bar on the beach served special drinks with reasonable prices and nice music. The free shuttle buses to Ocean City and Assateague were a real asset. We stayed there Labor Day night after most people had left and we were impressed at how quickly the whole campground was picked up. We will definitely stay there again although it is a little pricey.
First impressions were not good because the women at the check-in were not very friendly. The roadways were paved and there was plenty of grass and shade trees. Sites were fairly wide. There are many seasonal residents. No sewer sites were available. The bathrooms/showers were good sized and clean. The dump station was not pull-through requiring a back-up which is pretty unusual. The Depot is the closest campground to the ocean, located on Broadway which is one of the two main roads into Cape May.
We stayed at this campground for two nights recently. We paid for a premium site, but were very disappointed with the site. It was in the shade and near a ugly-looking stream. The site was unbelievably small for a "premium" site. In the back was a tree that prevented us from going all the way back. On the one side was a tree so we had to go even further forward to allow the slide to come out; on the other side was another tree so we couldn't put out the awning. The "heated" adult pool was heated by the sun to a cool 68 degrees I would guess. Some other premium sites were nice, pull-through sites or at least good-sized and level. We wouldn't have minded the site so much if we weren't charged for a premium. The location is good. There was no cable TV at the site I was at. There is WIFI but it is a paid service--not included in the price.
We stayed here for Memorial Day weekend. The office staff was still getting their act together and it took us forever to get checked in even though we were the first in line. The WIFI was in and out, and mostly not available. The office staff was apparently not really familiar with the campground because they sent us up a roadway that made access to our site much worse than if we came in from the opposite direction. We've stayed here a number of times because of the location and we're going here again soon. Hopefully the staff will be more efficient.
