Civilians and Reserve military personnel working on the base and long term (years) permanent residents prevent transient overnight or short term stops. Before taking the time to stop, call the MWR number and ask if there are sites available. Chances are slim to none an open site will be available. The CG does not take reservations. We wasted a lot of time coming off the interstate to the CG only to find civilians working on the base were occupying nearly all sites and that no sites were available.
Very large & well manicured campground. Plenty of security. This is a destination campground. You can stay here almost indefinitely without ever having to leave if you so choose. Convenient to all of the tourist trap Myrtle Beach stuff as well as restaurants and retail shopping including Wal-Mart. Most folks will give this CG a "10" rating and rightfully so. My "9" rating is simply from personal preference of preferring state and Corps CG's vs. the large commercial type CG's. Without a doubt; of all the large commercial CG's we've staying at over the years, this one is something to see and experience. We didn't like the closeness of the sites and the constant stream of rigs, pedestrians, & golf carts constantly traveling past our site.
