Have stayed here many times over the years, but only in the spring and fall. Campground is heavily wooded, but hot and muggy in the summer. Some sites need several boards to level. We camped during the annual Halloween activities weekend. Campground was full, as sites were reserved many months ahead, and most were decorated for the occasion. Some new gravel rock dust had been put down, and only added to the dusty conditions. We checked out after 1pm and was no waiting at either of the two dump stations on the road out. Will camp here again.
Quiet weekend with campground less than half full. Grounds were in great shape. Check in without a reservation was quick. Nice folks in the office. Escorted to site. Many tall pine trees on sites. Only negative is the somewhat confusing access road off I-85 to get to the campground. Would stay again.
Great park! Host were very friendly...gave us lots of information and invited us to come back. Seems to be in the middle of attractions in all directions. Close to Cherokee, Maggie Valley,Asheville, Blue Ridge Parkway, and not too far to Gatlinburg.
If you are lucky enough to get one of the 30 or so spots up front, it is a great place to stay. Other spots on a winding downhill road leading to the back are still better than the spots in the back with the hundreds of permanent campers. Nice pool and friendly staff. Was told not to be in a hurry leaving on Sunday afternoon. Stayed over for the pool.
This was our second visit here this month. A short drive for us. Only a few other campers here on this weekend.Loved the privacy on our site. A short drive to Chessnee,SC for shopping/food. Trains pass several miles away every few hours and Saturday nights have noise from nearby Harris Speedway. One of our favorites otherwise.
One of our favorite campgrounds. Kids and grandkids love this place. Only negative is the location being about 10 miles from town. First come, first serve on sites, but I've NEVER had a problem getting a site.
Mostly permanent sites here, not too impressed overall. The kids loved the river. Probably won't return because of the remote location. We appeared to be the only visiting campers here other than those at permanent sites.
