We used this campground as a stop for the night as we were driving across the country. It has the best pricing we have ever run into for what you get. Our rate was $17 for the night and we received full hookups and cable. We also had WIFI. Can't beat it! We will make this a routine stop on our migration every fall and spring. The staff was friendly, cheerful and very helpful. Sites were perfect for pulling in late, relax with a little TV, get to bed and up and out before sunrise.
This is one of the few campgrounds in the area. The DN in DN Campground literally stands for Do Nothing Campground. There is a bar on site although we did not use it. It is mostly permanent sites here with campground rentals by the Apple River set down and away from most permanents. Great view of the river. The sites are shaded and level with electric and water. There is a dump station on site. There are a lot of permanents here and they really seem to have a great time with lots of activities for them. At least there was on 4th of July weekend when we were there. It is a wonderful relaxing campground it sit relax and DO NOTHING. We have AT&T and the signal is very weak, you have to walk up by the main building to make or receive calls, texting does get though from the site. There are many sites for tents, pop ups and ample room for 5th wheels, Class A and C motor homes. We were able to get air TV on several channels while here too. We will be back.
We have actually stayed here several times. Most sites are level but there are a few that are difficult to level on especially those on the hill to the north and west of the office. The park is minutes from many tourist spots such as MOA and MN Zoo, and in the middle of a large suburb but you do not feel like you are in city. The park is large with acres of wooded land around it. You can even hear coyotes sometimes in the early mornings. There is a wonderful playground for the kids and hiking and biking trails too. If you want to relax by the campfire park has campfire rings at each site and well maintained. This place is almost always busy and full during the summer. Great place to go to get away with out really having to drive far to do it!
Old Barn Resort as a campground is a lot of fun. The sites are tighter than we have seen at other campgrounds with your neighbors picnic table less than 5 feet from our motorhome. We had a devil of a time leveling the motorhome on the grass site, which we did not have that issue at other grass site campgrounds we have been to. A lot of big dips and mounds in the site. The only real complaint is the gravel roads have washed out at the top of the hills leaving ravines and have basketball sized pot holes in spots which does keep the speed down. There were no bugs at all which is a huge plus especially at night. We did not use or go into the bathrooms but were next to them, and there was a constant stream of people in and out all day long. It would be hard to keep them fully stocked and spotless without a full time attendant. We ate at the bar/restaurant, and the food was good, and service was good considering how busy they were and only two servers. This weekend was the most fun we have had all summer! The access to the bike path is wonderful to bike for a short time or make a day of it! The path has spots to stop and rest, enjoy the view of the river, or have a picnic. The people we ran into were all very friendly and seemed to be having a great time. The tubing on the river appears to be a huge hit, and although we did not do that, plenty of others were! The golf course was very fun to play, with a nice mixture of long and short holes. Beautiful scenery. We will definitely come back.
We stayed here with our camping club. The area we were assigned to has lots of mature shade trees. The grass sites are easy to level and free of mounds and dips. The river was a short walk to and appears to be a fun place to go wading. We did not stay long there due to the bugs and being evening that is to be expected. At the campsite itself the bugs were not a big issue. The owners are around all the time riding by and help if there is anything you need. They had a BBQ on Friday which was a nice treat to not have to cook. The fee was very reasonable. We will be back.
We have stayed here twice this year, both times it has been a pleasant weekend. Sites are level, and some have shade. Shuttle comes by every few minutes should you wish to go to the casino. Morning walks are nice and large variety of RV's to look at. Campfire rings and picnic tables are well maintained at each site. Wi-Fi works well. We will be back.
The park was quiet, too quiet. Ghost town quiet. Most lots are empty, they have a pool, we did not use. The Wi-Fi is terrible, and no other amenities. Lots are spacious and has large trees with concrete pads which is nice. Could be a great park if they would update. A train horn can be heard at night, but that obviously can not be helped. The Park manager is friendly, but can't do much, due to upper management. The Resident park handy man was extremely friendly and very helpful. The Park is quiet, just has a ghost town feel to it: kind of unsettling.
