We loved this campground! The "ruins" are minimal, so, if that's your interest, you may be disappointed. But the campground is great: paved level sites with tables and grills, clean, huge amount of space between sites, quiet (1.4 mi from I40), fabulous expansive view across desert grassland, amazing skies. We had a very relaxing two nights here and would stop again when driving across I40.
The location and condition of this cozy campground are great. It is very close to town, perhaps a mile. The sites are a nice size and are neatly kept gravel with picnic tables on cement patios. We have enjoyed our week here, and would definitely return on our next visit to Fredericksburg. Only downside to our visit is that Enchanted Rock is closed at this time. But the town is wonderful, and there are lots of other places to visit not too far from here (e.g. LBJ Ranch, etc.).
There is something very pleasant about this park. It is a Good Sam park, and repeat customers receive an extra discount. It has a driving range, and a lovely view across the hills of Tennessee. Sites are well-maintained gravel, and are very level. This is a great stop on your way up or down I-81, but could be a great place to spend more time relaxing. The staff is great, too.
Only reason to stay here is if you are having your motor home serviced. Problem is that you never know when your unit will be serviced, because they are unorganized. We were there 2.5 weeks! Facilities are clean and there is a laundry and a small RV store with Tiffin parts and other handy items. Wi-Fi is only available in the customer lounge. There is ample room at each site to sit out and also park your car, but they are really just parking spaces - no ambiance. Be sure to visit the Coon Dog Cemetery and Rattlesnake Saloon.
