This park is all business. Don't expect "Texan Friendly" spoken here. Your location is critical. All of the locations are expensive so make sure you avoid near the freeway or the very busy street Hiram Clark or the backside that is up against an industrial area. To avoid these, you will pay more. If you hate being "over-ruled" in a park, this place will not suit you. For example, there is grass "acceptable" for the dogs, and grass not allowed. My dog couldn't tell the difference. Cable TV is worthless. Audio was garbled. Make sure you bring your satellite set up. Pool area is nice but hot tub jets outside do not work. Showers are unavailable each evening between 9-10 PM which is the time I would think most people would want to take a shower. Be aware operations here are not for the customers convenience, but for management. The best thing about the park is the shuttle service to the medical center, but be aware it doesn't run on the weekends. If you don't need the shuttle, there are parks close by that are equally as nice and management is much more gracious.
We came in after the office closed and the check in was easy with good instructions. I like this place! If road noise bothers you, don't stay here, but I didn't mind it. They have excellent facilities and the park is clean and well kept. I like the location as it is easy to access the highway and close to restaurants and shopping. They are not rules crazy here which I greatly appreciate. We would definitely stay here again. Initially, we were going to stay at another park down the road but when I inquired their about pricing, etc...I received a rather curt almost rude email from the owner and that was enough for me to look elsewhere.
After lots of research we decided to stay at Pioneer, and I definitely have mixed feelings about it. We opted for an expensive site as I didn't want to be near the highway listening to the cars buzz by. Actually all of the sites are very good so that was a waste of money. While the park has lots of amenities, I felt it was very expensive, and I felt nickel and dimed after having to pay extra for cable and electric on top of the very high price. Our site was facing in a terrible direction for the 30-40 mph winds. Every time we opened our front door it just about ripped off the hinges. While the location is close to the beach and has a nice boardwalk, I think we would have been happier with money in our pockets in a different park. We probably will not go back to this location. There are many other parks in the area that are less.
This is bare bones as far as amenities go, but the manager is super nice and the place is quiet and a perfect location just steps from the beach. We loved the restaurant and bar across the street (Castaways) and another restaurant within walking distance on the beach (Pirates Landing). We had a nice grassy spot and the cable worked well. Wish we could have stayed longer. Views were nice and hearing the ocean all night was an added bonus.
We made a reservation the day before with the owner to stay here. We asked about pets and he clearly said dogs need to be contained. It's not the size of the dog that is important. Then he said hey I gotta go, my dog is loose. That should have been our first clue to not stay here. Upon arrival, the owners were not on property and there was no phone number to call and no one to talk with. We found a maintenance guy who was very nice but didn't have a clue where we were supposed to be, and the sites were not marked at all. We walked around the property and realized the place was in horrible condition and half the meters didn't work. Then we found the water was off on many of the sites. There are many full-timers at the back of the campground. The maintenance guy said we needed to wait about 30 minutes for the owners to return. We waited for a while and then decided this place was too big of a dump and the owners obviously didn't really want our business. We went to another campground and were very glad we did. We would not recommend this campground.
We pulled in here after a long day driving and were very happy to have found such a cute, clean park. The owner was very nice, and we would stay here again. We like our location under the shade trees. Park is quiet and the other campers were very friendly. Bathrooms and showers are clean and well kept. Wish we could have stayed longer.
