First of all, there is a short but extremely steep entry road. Don't go in with a weak engine or slipping transmission. There are a few very short sites and a few sites you would never get a 30+ foot MH into, so if this is your first time, go in and take a look, BEFORE you select a site. For 30+ foot MHs, the best sites are: 408, 409, 411, 412, 413, 414 & 429 - OK, but not perfectly level are 410, 424, 422, & 420 This is very close to down-town Balto. We have camped there more than 25 times, and never had problems with underage drinking or DUI
Be careful on what length you declare. It is dumb; the reservation people say the maximum length is 30 feet, but there are 10 or 12 sites more than 60 feet and probably at least as many that are 45 feet, in the power loop. Lake is shallow with poor swimming. Antietam and Harper's Ferry are less than 15 minutes away, and if you're a civil war buff, these are very interesting places to visit. Nearest town is about 15 miles west, but get on Interstate 70 and go to far west side of Hagerstown to other north-south interstate highway, and this is where all the large stores are.
This is an old state park. The few sites with power are short and can be hard to get into. There are a few long sites without power. It is nice to be near river for both boating and fishing. The town of Have de Grace just 4 miles east is very interesting.
Have to put up with USN security, but that is understandable. 3 large swimming pools, boat ramp, swim beach, large marina - very level sites. Most sites were over 60 feet. Large grocery stores 3 miles south. Very interesting town just 1/3 mile to the southeast. We like camping here. 50A at all sites.
