My family stayed at James Island campground for 4 nights. This place is fantastic! The amenities are excellent. It's only a few minutes from downtown Charleston & a few minutes in another direction for the plantations... it's a great location!! There's walking/biking paths throughout the entire park, a splash park, a water park, a fishing dock, a rock climbing wall & a dog park. There was a pancake breakfast that my son loved! The place is extremely well kept. The office/ general store was great. The campsite we had was fantastic (#29). We had so much space yet it still felt very woodsy! I highly recommend this campground! All five of us in my family say it's our favorite campground to date!
This is a nice campground. Everything is clean and well maintained. The pools are really nice and they always have life guards. They have some fun activities like movie nights and candy bar bingo. The shuttles back and forth to Hershey Park and Chocolate World are fantastic. They run often! The best parts were the hour you get to enter this park before the general public, and the discounted tickets they sell at the general store. We got so much done in that hour even though there were only 2 sections of the park open. We stayed in the Woodlands. Thank goodness we were in one of the outside rows, the middle row looks cramped. There is not a lot of privacy here and it is a noisy campground. We were right off the major road so you hear cars and trucks. You can't miss the train running all night but with the ac at night, it didn't affect our sleeping. Overall, it's the perfect place to stay if you're going to Hershey Park. If not, I'd probably stay elsewhere.
This is a beautiful campground. The views of the lake & the golf course are stunning. Our camp site was huge (site #40). My only complaint was that we were facing a boat trailer parking lot & our site was before the sign saying only registered campers beyond this point. That meant that there were a lot of people turning around at our camp site. We didn't like the gravel drive either. Other than that, we loved staying here. For $14 a day for 4 people ($3.50 each person over 4... we are a family of five), you were able to use all the resort facilities. That was really nice. We used the spa for services, the gym, the pool, the kayaks, the paddle boats, the boat cruise on Little Sorrel & my son even spent one morning in camp (which he loved). We did drive to the lodge because I felt the roads were too narrow to ride our bikes safely. I'd love to see a bike path to the lodge!! There is a shuttle to take you to & from the lodge which my kids did use a couple of times. We cooked every night so I can't talk about the restaurants. I read in other reviews about no TV or internet... we had both. Maybe that's a recent upgrade but we were happy to have both! I would definitely stay here again, but I would request a different site.
