We had a great site on the I loop. The kids really enjoyed seeing the ponies, and they did come right into our site. We had heard there would be bugs, but we had no problems with them. We had a nice ocean breeze that kept us cool. The access to the beach was a plus, and there were not a lot of people on the beach because it's far away from the day use section. The beach was clean. At night we had the beach almost to ourselves. We loved the fact that there are no dogs allowed: NO yappy dogs. The only downside was the horse waste. Wished the staff did more to clean up after the horses. We loved being on the oceanside of the loop, and not bayside. There are also lots of attractions in the area that were close. We would go back again.
This is one of the best state parks in New York. Our site (#232) was big and backed right up to the lake. The campground had lots of open spaces. We had a wonderful view of the sunset over the lake every night. The grounds and restrooms were very well maintained. The staff was really nice. They were able to help us find local atttractions, and give great directions. The campgrounds are near many local attractions, and easy to get too. Direct route from campground to Niagara Falls. We loved the free parking in all state parks, and saved a lot of money on parking fees. We would go back anytime.
