This campground is pretty much run down, but with a little work it could be nice once again. The entrance to the park is very deceiving. Once in the park, you’ll find interior roads full of potholes and in need of serious attention. The door to one of the only two women’s showers will not close or lock. The rules are pretty much non-existent. People do not pick up after their dogs. There are many permanent residents, and they do not maintain their sites. The only time we saw anybody that worked here was when we checked in. I would suggest that you look for another campground if you are planning to come to this area.

When you enter Kentucky Horse Park beware. There are two speed bumps that are poorly marked. The sign is 12” X 12” and located right on the bump. The bump is not marked with the universal yellow paint. You do not see the bumps until you are right on them, and they can cause significant damage to your suspension. The park itself is well cared for and well landscaped. There are no sewer hook-ups, only electricity and water. Most all the campers use the shower facilities. As one poster has already pointed out, the water is extremely hot and caution should be used, especially with young children, as you could be scalded. The showers, during our two-week stay, had not been cleaned or disinfected. Overall, the park is nice, but there is room for improvement.

We came to Nashville to spend some time enjoying the sights and visiting with old friends. We found this park poor in many areas. First, we were placed on a site that we were told was for monthly stays. We found that those in this area were permanent residents and construction workers in the area. Also we were less than 100 yards from construction next to the campground. Every morning about 4:30 am several workers in the park started their loud trucks and motorcycles. About 6:00 am, the construction with heavy equipment starts directly behind us. Not bad if you are an early riser. The park had many empty sites in other areas that would have been much quieter. This could be that the staff is young and has not been train properly to deal with the public. Secondly, Wi-Fi was very poor. The signal strength showed only one bar most of the time. However the campground about a quarter mile away showed signal strength of five bars. Thirdly, water pressure in the showers was extremely poor, to non-existent. We would not recommend this park. There are other parks in the immediate area that could provide better service.

This park is fairly new, opening in February. The sites are level concrete pads. Green grass and well lit at night. The park is located away from the highway and is quiet. There’s plenty of shopping nearby at Wal-Mart. You feel welcomed from the minute you arrive. Looking for sights and things to do in Lake Charles, The staff can give you all kinds of information. They told us about a little honky-tonk just up the road called Grainger’s. Not much to look at from the road, but once inside, a warm friendly atmosphere. The best gumbo and potato salad in Lake Charles. That’s a must stop when you’re in Lake Charles. We will definitely stay at Twelve Oaks again when we are in the area.

This park has a beautiful view if the Sandias mountain. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. Our site was clean and fairly level and we did not have any problems getting in or out. There are plenty of activities going on in the park. There is a free pancake breakfast every morning in the summer cafe. This cafe also carries a full breakfast menu. Several times during the week they show current movies. The pool is sparkling and relaxing. The bath and shower facilities are super clean. We met a lot of people in the park and we all had a good time. This park is conveniently located between Santa Fe and Albuquerque on I-25, and is also close to shopping. This is one of the better parks that we have stayed in and we definitely will stay here again when we are back in the area.

The park is definitely not up to KOA standards. There was no hot water during our stay. Landscaping at the park was not maintained, grass cuttings everywhere. Trailer life gave the park overall 8, restrooms an 8, visual a 7. It was anything but close to that rating. On the plus side, the staff is young and friendly but appear to be inexperienced. The park is close to sight seeing and shopping. If you are passing though, the park is okay for an overnight stop.

Our stay was a stop over for two nights while traveling on I-80. We found the owners to be very friendly and made us feel comfortable. We were escorted to our site. The park was very clean and we had no problem with any of the hook ups. We would definitely stay again and would recommend Gaslight Campground to anyone traveling through the area.

Restrooms need attention. They hadn't been cleaned in the week we were there. Showers are dark, the ceiling panels are falling, and the shower stalls had not been cleaned. Small insects have infested the shower stalls. The site we stayed in was not level as were many other sites. The lower end of the park needs to be cleaned up. We would not stay again.

We enjoyed Grandpa's campground for 7 nights, that included the 4th of July weekend. The owners had plenty of activities planned, and the pool was opened for adult swimming in the afternoon. You feel right at home from the time you arrive until you check out. When we are back in the area we will stay again.
