Sites are narrow and overgrown. It's hard to get to the utilities on the site and there is nowhere to sit outside. Our patio was overgrown and without a picnic table. The pool is not so great and the convenience store is a joke. There are a few cans on a shelf. The desk staff was friendly. There are showers in the main building; only 3 and one was broken. We did not use the showers. We will not stay here again.
Very nice and clean campground. The owners and employees are wonderful. They had a local entertainer one night - not appealing to my teenagers - and ice cream. The flowers and landscaping are beautiful. Nice laundry. It is a bit noisy with road noise and a train. We found it not as social as some other campgrounds and a bit boring for my kids. They were the only kids there for 3 days. Love the Ben and Jerry's ice cream available in the main office. If you want quiet without kids, stay here.
Advantage of this park is its proximity to town. We walked and biked for dinner and ice cream. It is a large campground which can accommodate big rigs. They serve coffee in the morning. Clean, wide paved roads, nice sites with picnic tables and grass. We were along the edge on the road side, but the noise was not that bad. Campfires are not allowed in the city of West Yellowstone. Unfortunately, we were near a couple of RVs that had unattended dogs inside and those dogs barked for the entire time their owners were gone.
We stayed at the Broken Wheel campground, which is the older of the two. The advantage is there are some trees that provide limited shade. It was 100 degrees when we were there. A little pricey for what you get. The bathrooms and showers were adequate as were the connections. The picnic table was full of bird poop. There are sites with shelters for the picnic tables. If you are going to visit, visit when the observatory program is available. This is worth the trip. Also, go on the scorpion hunt with the park ranger, at night. They are luminescent with UV light. My kids loved it! Do not go in the dead of summer - too hot to enjoy the dunes. A bit too pricey.
Stayed overnight for a second time coming through the area. Clean laundry, nice pool and clean showers with bath mats. The front office staff was friendly. Sites are gravel, paved wide roads, picnic tables on grass. Sites are roomy and easy in and out. We would return if traveling through the area.
We come back here year after year. Beautiful park with unbelievably clean showers, incredible flowers and landscaping and a nice pool. Within 20 minutes of Bend and 5 minutes to Sisters. Everyone is friendly and there are so many repeat campers.
This is a great park to come and stay. If you aren't waterfront, you have a view and the views of Emigrant Lake are stunning. This is an unusual year, as the lake is at about 55% of normal and the bank is very low. There is hiking, boating, swimming, stand up paddle boards for rent. We will be returning. The showers were clean and the camp hosts take great pride in providing a clean environment. There is not a lot of shade, but there are a few sites with trees that will provide a bit of shade for sitting and gazing at the lake. Ashland is a few miles down the road: restaurants, theatre, music, wineries. Great vacation place.
