Nice park. Lots of hiking trails. Sites were a little close, but nothing unusual for a state park. Really liked the reservation web site. Nice to have a photo of each site available. However, renovations are in progress. The camp host visited us to let us know that the construction crew was in to drill and blast rock for a new sewer line. Well, OK...it was very quiet until the drilling commenced. Then BOOM! (It was kinda interesting, actually.) The good news was: The camp host also said that the new sewer lines were being laid to accommodate FULL hookups! Should be ready next year. Outstanding! We will be back.
Camped there a couple nights during the week. It was very quiet and restful. Camp hosts were very helpful and courteous. We camped on site 120 ( a back-in site) which required at least 8" of leveling for the back axles of my Class C. Bath houses were clean and close by. Firewood was available at reasonable prices. We plan to return in the fall.
This was the 3rd time I have stopped here while traveling to & from Florida. I really like the campground and apparently, so do many others as they were almost full the night I stayed. The site they placed me in was a "pull in, back out" site that I believe was fairly new. The owner assisted me into the site and apologized for the standing water. I have no doubt that they will add a bit more stone to deal with that. I will make sure to call for reservations next time. They are nice folks.
This is a really nice RV park. I drove in without reservations and they set me up with a drive through spot near the office. I wish I had time to stay a few nights, but I needed to move on. I will definitely return.
Gravel sites, not terrible, but be sure to bring lots of lumber for leveling. The sites are pretty doggone tight. The bathrooms and showers were reasonably clean, most of the time. We really liked the little beach area for the grandson. Biggest complaint was the water service. They did some maintenance work while we were there and didn't bother to notify anyone that the water would be turned off. When it was turned back on, it flowed absolutely black for a while. If it was me, I'd let people know.
Stopped here on my way down I-81 on the basis of previous reviews. Found it to be as others here have stated: clean, quiet, and easy access. I used the on-line reservation system and did not get any kind of confirmation, but had no problem when I arrived. The night I was there, it was a very popular stop for big rigs with towed vehicles.
We absolutely enjoyed our stay here. The camp site we got was the only pull through that faced out away from the road. The other pull through sites were on the inside of the loop road, meaning that your awning would be facing the road and your fire ring and table were on the other side of your unit. Our site was large enough to accommodate a large class A. However, it was really soft under the wheels and I could see that it had been recently graded. Maybe after a good, dry summer that site will firm-up. The camp hosts did a wonderful job of cleaning and maintaining the camp sites and bathhouse. They were constantly out working on the bathhouse or greeting guests. You will need a vehicle to get around to the beach area. I would estimate that it is about 2 or 3 miles from the camp to the beach. Also, there are some nice hiking trails in the park. We enjoyed the short walk out to Turtle Island which affords a beautiful view of the lake. Nice job, Virginia!
We enjoyed our stay and we will plan a return visit in '08. The concrete pads were reasonably level and well maintained. The staff was very helpful and courteous. I'll take a half point away for the slight deterioration of the 2nd pool bathhouse. The FMCA discount is the only one they recognize, and it is a bit on the pricey side. But, we were just tickled to be at the beach and have a quality RV site.
This has got to be one of the best state parks that we have tried. We stayed in the Ash loop, which is the only electric service loop in the campground. Our site (#27) was a tad on the tight side for a 30 foot motor home and the fire pit was very close to our rig. That is the only reason I did not give the park a 10 rating. Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed hiking the lake loop trail which is easy and scenic. Also, we noticed a fair amount of patrolling by the park staff (a good thing). We hope to return in the fall.
A very nice place to stop while traveling back from Florida. The owners are nice folks and I can see they are constantly improving their facility. This was my third visit and I will visit them again on the next trip.
Very good area for hiking. Easy walk to the falls. Sites are nice, although a bit tight. Our site was adequate for a 30 footer. We stayed in the Addison loop and we were a little surprised to be one of only two motorhomes there. We plan to go back this fall.
This is only my 3rd campground experience, but I offer the following comments: A) The check in was quick, the folks were polite and we found our site with no trouble. A plus, for sure. B) Site was a concrete pad and required only a slight adjustment for level. C) The record heat wave did create a bit of a stink at the garbage containers. A slight minus, we noticed only on the hottest day. D) Notices were posted on all sites that the camp water had tested positive for bad stuff in the water supply. At least we were notified. E) Lots of electric scooters in use, even though they were not allowed. F) Amazed how quiet the campground was after 10. Of course most folks were doing just what we were: a full day at the beach followed by a nice dinner and a few libations. That tends to settle ya' down, early. Overall, we had a great time. Will go back next year.
