This is a well kept and attractive, sun drenched RV park on the southern tip of South Padre Island. There are few trees anywhere on the island except palms so make sure your A/C and awning are working and ready to go. South Padre is HOT in the summer! The location is great, right on the bay with a view of the causeway with a fishing pier, which guests can use for free. The kids and I had a great time catching many small fish off this pier at night. The cafe on the pier was quite good as well. It was great to be able to stroll over to the cafe from your campsite in the evening. Weekend days got somewhat crowded as the spots are rather tightly spaced. All the spots are paved or gravelled with large (ping pong ball size) white rocks. This tended to amplify the heat and made walking without shoes unpleasant. Bring your awning mat! Bathrooms were outstanding and clean. The staff was attentive and obviously took good care of the park. The converted water tank buildings were very cool!
This park has two parts-one half is a heavily treed, park like area with winding roads that lead to shaded back-in spots. A few of these are a pretty tight fit between big shade trees but they are perfect for smaller rigs like mine. The other half is a wide open paved lot with rows of pull through spaces sprinkled with small spaced trees. The location is great, on the edge of town near the fairgrounds in a quiet area. The pool is big and well kept, a real treat during hot Texas afternoons. This is the place to stay if you are going to attend one of the many annual events at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds.
If you like a campground type RV park with lots of shade trees, rock fire rings and an open roomy feel, this is a great choice. It is located several miles south of busy Colorado Springs in the front edge of the mountains. It is located in a peaceful country setting away from the main highway. We slept with the windows open and the A/C off and enjoyed the cool Colorado nights-it was that quiet. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The facilities were well kept and clean. Use of the Hot Tub required a reservation-a great system other parks should adopt. Many of the in-town Colorado Springs RV parks here are of the paved and packed design near busy city streets so this was a real find for us.
