This is a very nice campground. However, when making reservation make sure to let them know if you need 30amp or 50amp. On the map in their website, it did say not to use your air conditioner. We called ahead to tell them that we might need to use the AC because we have a baby and may need to keep the TT in a comfortable temperature. The guy who answered the phone told us that the warnings on the map was old. We were told that we could go ahead and turn on our AC while we're there. We were given site # F11. It is a pull through, by the river, full hook up, however the electricity is not even close to 30amp. With a newborn baby, we needed to use all the appliances in our TT. However, since it was probably drawing less than 30amp, we were not able to do so. The office staff were very nice though. They immediately gave us other options that offer the 'full' 30amp. The resort is fully self contained. It was very secluded but it offers so much that we didn't even have to go out of the park to entertain the kids. There were miniature golf, game arcade, basketball court, tennis court, tether ball, playground, tiny town, horse shoe, swimming pool outdoor and indoor which was kept at 82F while we were there. Did I mentioned that all of this are included in the fee of $38 per night? There was also a small stream that runs through the campground. Overall, this is one of the best in Colorado. The view is excellent and there were so much trees you feel like you are in the woods by yourself. The bathrooms and showers are kept clean and the small convenience store carry enough stuff that you probably will need. It is 25 miles from Salida if you forget to get something from the big grocery store. There are no T-Mobile or AT&T phone service. Wi-Fi signals very weak and you could only use it if you are close enough to the office. We will definitely try to come back here.
This is a very nice campground right beside the Big Thompson River. We called 2 months ahead to reserve a spot by the river. We told them that we have a 33 ft travel trailer and have extensions at the back as well as the side. They gave us site #5 and we were told it is a very nice site by the river. When we pulled into the park, we were very shocked to see the site. It was very-very small and narrow. Our sewer connection were probably less than 4 ft away from our neighbor and since it rained the second day we were there, we had to extend our awning out. Our awning was less than 2 feet away than the next RV. It was weird because they put a pop-up camper on site that was larger and wider than site #5. I wish the staff will make note of this and not put big rigs in this site. The other sites looked fine. The park and the playground were very nice and clean. Wi-Fi signal was very strong and reliable. I was able to stay on it for quite some time finishing up some work. I would come back again and will request a specific site next time.
The campground is located conveniently close to Downtown Woodland Park. The Eleven Miles reservoir is about half an hour west of the campground. Tents are not allowed and there are no public restrooms/showers offered. WIFI signals are very strong and free. The owner and managers were very nice. Our site was given to another family but they gave us a couple of other options. The sites are mostly close together but comfortable enough for us to sit out at night. Campfire is not allowed unless you bring your own fire ring with a cover. There are some permanent residents but they are placed all the way at the back of the campground. The campground also offered the best view in town - you can see Pikes Peak from here. It is also close to grocery stores, gas stations and Dinosaur Museum. All in all, its a very nice and clean campground. Might come back again next year considering the rate is pretty decent.
We came here for the Labor Day Weekend. The site was very level so we just pull through and started setting up the trailer. The sites were all very clean and Park Rangers were constantly around checking on campers. Our site faced the lake and the view was awesome. The sites are not crowded and we were actually pretty far from our neighbor compared to other private campgrounds. We brought with us a hummingbird bird feeder and there were tons of them around this area. This campground is also great for fishing and for people that enjoys water activities. Our kids really enjoy fishing for crawfishes. The campground is really secluded but it is not that far from town if you need to go get some stuff from the grocery store. We will definitely come back here.
This is a nice park, but since we need a full hook up, we had to go all the way to the back of the campground. The sites were on a a large field of grass (not paved), no shades and our site was not level but with a couple of wood block we managed to get it levelled. The staff were pretty helpful. We made a reservation for 1 night and was thinking of spending an extra night but we changed our mind. There's horse corals around the campground and if you don't need full hookup, you can get sites that are nice and shady. We spent the night there so we could go to Hot Sulphur Spring (what a bad choice) since the owner of the Hot Spring hated children, and we had 3 under the age of 5 and a 12 years old. We should have spend more time at the campground instead. We will definitely come back to Winding River again.
This is a nice State Park if you don't mind being very close to Highways. There's I-25 on one side and 119 on the other side. It can get pretty loud during the day. We stayed at site number 66 which faced the one of the lakes however we could still see the highways. The site was very level and easy to get into. The full hookup sites were all new so it was pretty barren as all trees were still small. If you don't need full hookup, the electric only sites looked pretty nice. Fishing was an excellent activity as bass and catfish were in abundance. Another activity that we liked was observing the water fowls. You could see a lot of herons and pelicans here. There is no shades and or privacy between your site and your neighbor. The winds can get pretty strong too so watch out for your awnings. We will come back here for fishing.
This is a great campground if you don't need water and sewer hookup. The dump station is at the entrance of the park, and you can also fill up your tank at the same place. We saw a couple of deer while we were there. The river is about 150 yards from our site, and the kids actually went in to catch some crawfish. I imagine if you go in late summer, you will probably need some mosquito repellent. It wasn't that bad in April. It would have been ok if the rate is just $18 but you have to add the reservation fee and also the vehicle fee it all adds up to $32. The site is pretty level with all the regular amenities such as picnic table, shade shelter and fire ring for each camp site. The toilet/shower house is very clean. As a matter of fact, it was super clean. I have never seen a state park shower house this clean. We will come back again in the future.
We came here to celebrate my son's birthday. We were very happy with our site and the host / staff were very helpful. The site is pretty close together but still have trees in between for some sort of privacy. There's plenty of activities for the children. My kids really enjoyed the Candy Bingo, the Toga contest, the ice cream man as well as the swimming pool. There's also a mini golf on site if the kids want to golf. The trails were pretty nice and if you get to go to the top the view is breathtaking. The rate is pretty high considering they don't offer cable TV and you have to pay for the WIFI connection. Other than that, we will definitely come back here.
This is one of the nicest campground that I've been to. The toilets and the shower rooms were were very clean. During the Memorial Weekend, the restrooms/toilets and shower rooms were cleaned every 2-3 hours. The only thing that was probably an inconvenience to the tenters was the fact that the shower room was closed the last night we were there due to plumbing issue but since we camp there in a travel trailer with full hookup it was not an issue at all. The employees were very nice and very helpful. There's trails, creeks and a kiddie fishing pond on site. The kids were never without an activity there that they totally forgotten that they brought several movies with them in case they get bored. BBQ grill as well as fire ring are provided and were both very clean. The sites were mostly shady and the Pine trees as well as willow tree provided ample privacy. This campground is only 1/2 mile from the Grand Lake and there's a lot of things to do there too. I would highly recommend it and will definitely come back.
