Sherling Lake is a beautiful park. Two small lakes provide enough fish for dinner. Staff is very nice and friendly. Campground is clean and neat and trash is picked up daily at your site. Sites are quite close together, but we were surrounded by three huge fifth wheels pulled by semi trucks, so maybe the sites weren't as close as it seemed. There are covered picnic tables, and a nice walking path through a wooded area. Sites have some trees - enough for a little shade. Close to town and Walmart; the campground has a bit of highway noise, but it dies down at night. Restroom/shower facilities are clean but small for the size of the campground with two toilet stalls and one shower stall in each (men's and women's). We will come here again.
Frank Jackson is a small park on a 1,000 acre man-made lake. Fishing is good if you have a boat, but not from shore when we were there. We stayed for a month. A good share of the people who camp there are local families. A nice friendly park. Hosts are nice and have been there for several years. Most of the staff are nice, helpful and friendly. There are good walking paths and trails. Camp sites are large and include a fire/grill ring and picnic table. Most sites are on the water with three sites "lake view" and six new sites up on the hill away from the lake. The campground is close to the small town of Opp and about 12 miles from Andalusia which has a Walmart. It is a nice park and we will go there again.
A huge park. It is a good place to stay if you like large city-like campgrounds. We stayed here from November, 2008 to February, 2009. Then they started construction on a new swimming pool and other resort style features. The people who go to Gulf Shores do so year after year and have made close friendships. There is a nice Sunday worship at the activity building. The staff is very nice, friendly and considerate. The construction people were not. The noise and smell (they dug down and hit some sewer/swamp water) from the construction caused us to leave before our time was up. It is nice enough park, but just isn't for us. Rates are from $25 to $35 per night.
