What a beautiful site! Large spaces right on the water! Quiet! Lots of nature! Friendly hosts! We wish our schedule had allowed us to stay longer than one night. Hard rains had made the walking space at the end of our truck muddy, but the grass was beautifully manicured. Roads were bumpy. Traffic volume was low. If you are looking for peace and quiet, choose this campground!
This campground was noisy and crowded, but the staff was very, very nice! There is an extensive playground, and we had a misfortune of being assigned a site right across the roadway from it. People walked through our site to get there and it was noisy. My suggestion to them was to park older couples without children further away. I think the park tried to provide activities for families, and those with young children probably had a good time. Sites were quite narrow and without enough room to easily fit a 30 foot travel trailer, fire ring and pick-up truck. I doubt that we would choose to go back to this campground even though there was nothing major wrong with it -- just not a nice, relaxing atmosphere for us oldsters.
Staff was friendly, and we lucked out by not getting a floodable site. As with much of Maine (I think), the main problem was the mosquitoes -- we could never sit at the picnic table or lounge outside. We had a good site and will be back next year. The hi-light of staying here (or in many of the campsites and motels) was the free shuttle service in and out of Bar Harbor and all over Acadia. We parked our truck and could have gone everywhere on shuttles. What a beautiful part of New England, and this KOA was a nice place to stay. You will get a better deal on Lobster (if you don't mind eating out) at Gaylin's in Bar Harbor before 6 pm.
We stayed here twice because we were so impressed. This campground is spotlessly clean and there was good room between sites. The crew that greeted us and showed us to our site was helpful and cheerful. We were close enough to Cleveland sights and restaurants and stores to enjoy, but we were far from the noise of traffic. We would stay here again: a great campground.
The new owners are conscientious and generous. We needed to store our TT there while we attended a convention, and then we used it on both sides of the convention. The owner charged us a minimum rate to leave it plugged in for the fridge. One of the owners works fulltime elsewhere so most work gets done after the workday. I think the owners were exhausted, but they sure were nice. We stay there because hubby's mother is in nearby Xenia. Lots to see in this little town if you like to shop. We would stay there again, tho we hope they will update the laundry facilities, which were clean but old. I am unsure of the nightly rate since we had 2 rates as explained above. The owners are trying to bring back a nice old campground that had been let go for awhile. Good luck to the new owners!
