This was a very nice park. Our site wasn't wooded or shaded but I'm sure we could have requested one. We were close to the fantastic playground. The beach was very nice and even had a water slide for the kids to enjoy. I do wish they had included unlimited riding of the slide for the kids as I think it would have gotten a lot more use but overall a very nice place. They were in the process of redoing the showers so most of them were out of commission for the weekend we were there. Strange time to be doing it but it wasn't a problem for us.
We very much enjoyed our stay and Yankee Springs. The sites were big and wooded, the beach and fishing pier were very excellent. The playground was a bit dated but the kids still enjoyed it. My only complaint was the lack of water to each site. We knew that going in but it was a bigger issue for us than we originally thought it would be. Also I expected parking for my tow vehicle would have been included but it wasn't so I had to pay an extra $24 for a season parking permit.
First the positives... The campground was well kept and the playgrounds were nice. Yeah, that's about it. This is about the worst camping experience I have ever had. The staff is entirely unaccommodating, the small pool was overcrowded, the showers were clean but use one button to push for a 30 second or so shower with no way to adjust the water temp.(If I want that on/off shower I'll use my camper) Curtains, not walls, were the dividers in the showers as well. There wasn't even any soap at the sinks in the shower houses which, by the way, are separate from the bathrooms. Some sites seem nice and wooded but ours was very small in sardine row. They require you to have fires in very small pans (about 12 or 18" diameter). Everything about the place said they were doing it to maximize the revenue. The beach looked sandy but the bottom was covered with rocks and didn't even make it to waist deep by buoys. We had reservations there for later on in the year but will be canceling them and finding someplace else to stay.
Despite the reviews we decided to stay here anyway and we were very glad we did. Overall the staff was very nice and helpfully. I had no problems but a neighbor had a problem with his electric and it appeared to be corrected right away. I was very surprised at how many staffers they had around the park. The kids all had all had a great time and it was one of the best playgrounds I've seen. Everything was clean and I even saw them blowing sand from the playground off the nearby sidewalk. Hook-ups were configured a bit oddly, at our site the sewer and electric were within 10 feet of where we parked but I had to use the 50' hose for the water. It was an unusually cool and wet weekend and the pool was well heated as I was comfortable in it. I'm sure the temperature helped but I did not see a single mosquito the entire weekend. Really the only negative was that one of the activities people looked like she would rather be having her teeth pulled than be there with the kids and wasn't doing a good job of explaining the games to the kids. Even so, but even she was still pleasant so I'd guess she was just having a bad day. I would recommend this campground for anyone with kids.
We enjoyed our stay at Wandering Wheels and found the staff to be very helpful. We did not have the kids with us on this trip but wished we did due to the kid friendliness of the site. The facilities on the whole were somewhat dated but that wouldn't have been an issue for the kids. Most of the sites were wooded without any grass. Our site seemed level and we had no issues with electric or water. The only issue was that the Wi-Fi seemed to drop sometimes. We would recommend the campground.
