By far, the best stay we had this summer. Nice site, nice people running the place, and they play Close Encounters every night in the summer. You are literally at the main gate to the monument and have an awesome view. We had a nice thunder shower while we were there that cooled things off for the evening, too. There's a park for the kids to play in,and a pool. You can get a fire pit and roast some marshmallows for s'mores. We had a really nice stay. The ironic thing was that we had planned to stay at another park, but the directions were terrible, and we stumbled on this one by pure accident.
This was a nice site to stay in. Not super close to Mt. Rushmore but close enough, and it wasn't too far to Crazy Horse. The roads into the park can be quite interesting in the dark if you use a GPS or iPhone for navigation, taking you through 8-10 miles of tight twisty mountain roads. The sites are all angled and back in and can easily accommodate a long truck and trailer. The only detractors are a complete lack of cell service on AT&T and poor Internet connectivity, but if you want peace and quiet, or don't have kids who need to be "plugged-in", it's pretty nice. One final note: We were in my wife's home town of Minot, ND prior to this stay, and ended up staying an extra three days to help evacuate prior to the flood. The park we would have been at for those days was very understanding and accommodating allowing us to cancel our reservations without penalty. We contacted this park several days in advance to explain our situation but they were completely unwilling to accommodate us with a shift in dates or cancellation on our prepaid reservation. If you make the reservation be prepared to use it or lose it.
We only stayed a single night but it was a much needed quiet and relaxing stay. Right on the river, in the middle of June it was nice and cool, and no issues with bugs. Easy enough to get to off I-15, made us want to go back on a future trip.
We have been RV'ing with the family since '07. Earlier this year we bought a newer slightly larger trailer, and we have traveled nearly 10,000 miles this summer. To say this park was a disappointment is an understatement. The spaces are just barely long enough for a 28' trailer, but they cram longer trailers in to maximize their income, and consume part of the road through the park in the process. If you have a 5th wheel between 28'-33', and you tow with a long pickup, you most likely won't get in the space without a few curse words along the way. When you do get the trailer in, you won't be able to park your truck anywhere remotely near your trailer. Very frustrating. Very, very frustrating. The office will smile and be cheerful regardless of your disdain for the accommodations, but they will rent you a second space somewhere else in the park to put your tow vehicle. Good luck with this place if you go here.
