Rate reflects Passport America. It’s not often that I will review a park or campground while I am still in it, but this one I really like. When I called to make reservations, aside from needing full hookups, I really have to have good internet access (for work) and I really wanted some TREES! After being in Hermosa with no chance of shade from trees, I was really wanting trees. The site they gave us backs into a creek bed with fish, birds, rabbits and some Canadian Geese who seem to be homesteading here. Between the creek and our camper is a line of evergreen trees which offers us some amazing shade in the afternoon. The park is extremely family friendly and offers (at extra cost) dinners on Friday and Saturday nights as well as a cooked to order breakfast on Sundays. Last night we went to their Community building for a burger (or a choice of a meatloaf special) dinner and stayed for Bingo and an Ice Cream social. The park has spring fed stocked ponds you can fish in (no fishing license required) and a nice pool as well. The park does have a lot of long term residents, however the spaces are well maintained without a lot of clutter and unpleasant junk hanging around. We will definitely keep this place in mind for future stops. The rate is $14 a night with Passport America: for full hook ups / 50amp.
Rate reflects Passport America ($17.00 + $4 add for 50amp service). Very nice park with lots of shade trees. Well picked up and clean. WiFi service was a little slow, till we connected our WiFi Extender, then it was just fine. We enjoyed our time here very much and would highly recommend.
This TINY park is FULL of long term residents with only one or two open spots for travelers. The amount of yard clutter and crap being stored around or under the residences made me feel as though this was the SLUMS of campgrounds. We spent one night on our way to other destinations. The site given us was level enough(ish), but there was barely enough space to open the slides. No ability to sit outside because you were in jeopardy of being run over by vehicles (that's how close we were to the road edge). I would not recommend, unless your desperate! This place needs to clean up it's act and make the long term residents uphold some kind of aesthetic rules. What a DUMP!
Rate reflects Passport America. We initially wanted to stay two nights. However, there are two entry roads to the park which are 'unimproved' - actually they are a nightmare and don't dare try to enter or leave if it's been raining or else plan on calling roadside assistance to get out of there! The site we were given was entirely too small for our fifth wheel. In order to open our slides, we were jutting out in the roadway. We were next to the pool so all we could hear was the kids screaming and yelling. The site was littered with cigarette butts; someone had thrown rotting food on the ground, and there was metal trash on the ground at our site. Completely unhappy with this park. If we had known the roads were so bad, we would not have stayed. Leaving the park, we blew a tire - I've no doubt its a result of a piece of metal we didn't find that found our tire instead. We left after one night - couldn't leave fast enough!
South Dakota winds can be unforgiving and putting out an awning is risky at best. Given that, one would think a park would have trees. This one did not. The sites are long enough for your camper, but not to have a vehicle parked there too. The space you are given is small and there is little room between campers. The staff was rude and we witnessed them beating one of their (not for public use) horses for more than 15 minutes. As a former rancher, I disapprove of these people and their methods with animals completely. Pricing offered to us varied between phone calls and two of our friends were given two different monthly rates for the exact same MH for full hook up. The rate varied by more than $200! I would recommend staying FAR away from this campground!
We love this park. Rate reflects state resident & ADA Discount. Our one and only complaint is that it's difficult to back into the disabled site because of the posts in the ground outside the bathroom/shower building. The rangers were all very friendly and helpful, yet not over intrusive. We took a nice class with one ranger on "What Trees Tell Us" and found it very informative. We can't wait to stay here again and would recommend it to anyone!
Loved Loved Loved! Rate reflects Passport America. Friendly, helpful and organized staff. Work campers clean each spot completely after someone departs and check it again before new arrival. We can't say enough about the park! Can't wait to stay again!
I can't say enough nice about this place. The staff is very very helpful and friendly. The facilities are very clean and up to date. We've had a wonderful time here and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a park near the Grand Canyon. There are some long term residents, yet their sites are not loaded with the 'yard garbage' that most long term residents at other parks seem to have. There is a consistent 'come & go' with folks leaving and coming in, yet the park has a very peaceful and tranquil aspect to it. Television, not so good, but with the Grand Canyon so close, and plenty of cute Route 66 Shops in town, who needs TV. Wi-Fi connection good and strong and allowed me to make a large amount of image uploads to the internet with relative ease. There is no doubt that this is one of my favorite parks. The only thing that I could possibly complain about is the red lava rocks on the ground turned my black and white Shih Tzu pup: black and pink. However, I was able to bathe him in the large sink in the laundry room. If that's as bad as it gets: I got no complaints!!! Job well done Canyon Gateway!
We completely enjoyed our stay here. The Park has recently been purchased by a young family and they are wonderful! Welcoming, helpful and very personable. We arrived after dark and the owner directed us to our site, stayed and offered us assistance with set up. Their three children are adorable and well attuned to the idea of a work ethic, thanks in large part to the hard work their parents are putting into the park. The laundry room was clean and fully operational, sites were clean and level. My only problem had nothing to do with the owners or the park.. I had lousy Cell Service here. Without a doubt we will stay here again! We highly recommend this park to anyone!
We stayed four days. From the area and now living in an RV, we needed a place to stay so that we could go to doctors and get scrips at the pharmacy. Our lot was not very level, the owner neglected to give us the access code for internet and even though we had her business and cell phones, she did not answer our call or return our call for that information. When we go back to the area again in August, we will not be staying here again. She would not honor our Passport America membership for more than one night in the off season (February).
Incredible! We were completely spoiled during our stay here. We would have stayed longer if we had not made appointments for personal business elsewhere. The camp hosts are amazingly welcoming and friendly. The laundry facility, bathroom and showers were spotless. The feeling of instant community is one that we have compared to everywhere we have stayed at since. Well Done! Looking forward to getting back here and staying again!
