Campground and campsites are RV friendly and generally level. A good mix of sun and shade for sites. Showerhouses are dated but generally maintained well (modern showerhouse is located in primitive section of campground). Beautiful hiking and historic downtown Madison in the area. The drive aisles were freshly paved, so biking in the campground for children was enjoyable. Playground was okay.
Nice campground to use for activities in the area (e.g., Kings Island, downtown Lebanon) and family and dog-friendly. Mostly gravel pads and drive aisles. Some sites could be challenging for leveling. Concrete pads for picnic tables are provided. Pool was adequate for park size, but playground left something to be desired, especially for weekends and families. We would stay here again.
Stayed in eastern part of the Buffalo Ridge loop. This loop appeared best suited for RVs and groups. The other loops were nice, but heavily wooded, so leveling appeared difficult. The shower house was modern and very clean. Beautiful hiking paths and very large pool (but located outside the campground). Staff was friendly.
A very clean park. Trails were nice. Most sites seemed to offer some shade. The best location is the back loop: we were on site #30, which offers a quiet loop for families or groups. Kids really enjoyed visiting the bison, which were out and grazing. Campground was booked full the weekend we were there and was still quiet and family-oriented. Each water hook-up is shared by two sites and ours pushed the 50' hose limit. Facilities were well-maintained. Pool was adequate, especially for hot days, but only ranged from 3'6" to 4'8" deep and the pool size was probably proportionate to the campground size. We'd definitely camp here again.
Overall a very nice campground for camping (versus tourist activities or boating). Even though an older campground, it was well maintained and the facilities were well kept. We did not have an opportunity to frequent the pool even though we visited in July the temperatures didn't exceed seventy-five, but it looked nice. All three sections of the campground seemed nice. Section A had some topography to its sites while Sections B and C were rather flat. We stayed in Section B. The sites were large enough to provide privacy. We explored the hiking trails which were nice for beginner hikers and not overwhelming while offering nice views of the lake and creeks. The only possible negative was that the camp store was down by the paddle boat rentals on the lake, which required getting in your vehicle to visit.
This campground is part of the Hoosier National Forest and was a very nice park. Even with the busy holiday weekend and 100% occupancy, the linear design of the campground gave most sites privacy with plenty of shaded sites. The linear design, though, didn't necessarily make the trash dumpsters, shower houses or playgrounds very conveniently located (depending on the site). The beach and lake were well maintained and reflective of the beautiful terrain offered by southern Indiana.
This is definitely one of the nicer, more natural parks in Indiana. We camped prior to Memorial Day, so it was still a bit cool and the pool was not opened yet; however, the trails and the park views were spectacular. The facilities were clean and the camp store was adequately stocked. The nature center, fishing and playground were all positive opportunities that our children enjoyed. We will definitely be going back every year!
This is one of the best campgrounds in the state. The beach and campground was well maintained and the staff was friendly. The sites are large and most sites have decent shade. The design of the smaller loops creates a quiet setting even though this is a larger campground. We are planning our next trip to this campground already.
The campground's facilities were nice (e.g., pool, store, putt putt, playground); however, this is definitely not the campground for weekend campers. We stayed over Memorial Day weekend and the "overnight" sites were on high traffic routes that were very, very busy with golf cart traffic all at all hours of the day. The campground was more akin to a permanant manufactured home park than a campground. We will not be visiting this campground again.
Nice family campground and friendly staff. Severe weather struck during our visit and the staff went around door to door with relevant information to keep all campers informed. Our loop had sites immediately adjacent to the lake, which was great for fishing with the children. The beach was clean and quiet. The restrooms were generally clean; however, very dated with peeling paint. We plan to make an annual visit to this campground.
